Just flipped over to the Va.tech/AF game and they had a headshot in the booth of the announcers.
One of them-with a barely out of teen years boys voice-looks like he/she is dressing in drag,or at least an amorphous looking shirt/blouse with lipstick-tho could be tv makeup.Reminds me of Dana Carvey from SNL.
I’ve realized the last few years or more ESPN really dredges the depths for their hires, judging from most of their onair hosts/play by play men-but WTF?They’re scouring bathouses for their “talent”?
Who or what is this tv announcer and why should I be buying any insights he/she is trying to impart.
Well, they had another in booth head shot to start the 2nd half and I could see it seemed female going for a somewhat lesbian/androgynous look. However,if you heard that voice first, without seeing the face (as I did) you’d swear they picked up a kid from the local high school football announcing crew.
Pretty good,to me,in a "color"or play by play man doesn’t entail reading 6.2 yds.per rush, etc.stats, that I can pick up off any sports paper/internet site.Especially when it’s delivered in a voice that sounds more suited to MCing the school pageant.
I want someone that * understands * why those stats are made and how todays defense is handling it.For a network that’s all sports, these people do a poor job of screening talent.
I’d even settle for a homer. At least you get one side of the story.I cut the sound off in the 2nd half, that commentary annoyed me to the point of distraction. My insight into the teams just ** watching ** on tv gives me more than I can get out of the occasional sideline injury update.
I couldn’t stand Miller on the NFL,either.
The bar has definitely been lowered.
