ESPN is reporting no charges for FSU's Jameis Winston.

You are a piece of work.

I’d take that bet, except I agree with you.

I haven’t been on SI in long time, and wow, they have one of the worst webpages I have seen in a long time. Slow, ugly, unnavigable and crashed Firefox, and I still never got to the first word of the linked article.

I agree completely, I used to always go to si.com for sports news, but now I’m usually using Pro Football Talk and the rest of the NBC Sports pages. I read Peter King’s column on SI and that’s about it these days.

Loaded fine for me. Agree bailing is his best move. Nobody cares if he wins a NC or Heisman. He needs to stay under the radar, maintain what reputation he still has.

I can understand that the SD doesn’t have much to say about this, but for the guy defending FSU and the police, could we get a point by point response to the NY times articles? They seem damning, and unless someone can show me where they go wrong FSU looks pretty much like Penn State to me.

Your query assumes that the guy in question, dalej42, is actually interested in facts and analysis and understanding.

He has made very clear, in this case and in other similar ones, that every contribution he makes is premised on the assumption that basically any woman accusing an athlete of a crime must be a gold digging whore who is in it for the money or the publicity or both, and that everything the woman says or does not say, and everything that she does or does not do, constitutes nothing except further evidence of her immorality and dishonesty.

For example, as Marley23 pointed out up the thread, in the minds of the woman-haters like dalej42, if she doesn’t sue Winston, it’s because she is obviously a liar and as no case, and if she does sue, she’s obviously just in it for the money. It’s a no-win situation for her.

Note that I am not arguing here that Winston is necessarily guilty, or deserves punishment. As i said in an earlier post, i haven’t yet, in this thread, taken a strong position on whether or not charges should have been filed. I’m sure that there are thing i don’t know about the case, and it could very well be that this was the appropriate course of action, although at the very least the NYT investigation is a rather damning indictment of the way this case has been handled by the authorities and by the university. I just find the unseemly gloating and slut-shaming by some of Winston’s supporters to be rather untoward.

Also, even if the right course of action was taken in this case, it seems pretty clear to me that star athletes are, in cases like this, often given more leeway in the court of public opinion, and are protected as much as possible by people who, in many cases, don’t even really seem to care if they actually did it or not. And dalej42, by his comments on the case, certainly gives the impression that he doesn’t give a flying fuck about finding out what the actual truth is in this case. As long as he can watch his football every Saturday, it just doesn’t matter to him.

As one of the two declared hard-core Seminole fans on this Board, I would like to state my full agreement with this portion of your post. Well said.

The university can be blamed for continuing to spread all the false rape statistics which are quoted as gospel these days. “1 out of 4 women will be raped at college.” When I was at FSU in the 1990s, we had to listen to at least one annual lecture about ‘date rape’ nonsense. I’m sure it’s only gotten worse.

I don’t really see anything wrong with the police investigation. The accuser kept changing her story and has multiple sexual encounters on the night in question. There wasn’t enough evidence to proceed.

Several months later, after all the bad news from the NFL, she pops back up like a Whack A Mole. She’s no longer a student, and probably hoping to make some quick easy money. I don’t think every woman is a gold digger but this sure looks like it. He’d love for her to go away and I’m sure she wouldn’t mind an easy paycheck.

And there he is, folks, perfectly encapsulated in three words.

I’d be shocked if Jameis Winston left FSU in order to try and avoid this hearing.

As another (the other?) Semi-Nole fan, I also agree wholeheartedly with what mhendo wrote.

Omigod, this is hilarious. Is that really the only piece of FSU-related reporting you thought to read this weekend? Because I read this gigantic New York Times story about football players getting away with domestic violence, theft and vandalism because the school runs the town and this Fox Sports story about gross misconduct on behalf of the local police, who shared documents with FSU before they shared them with prosecutors. That last bit is why the prosecutor couldn’t bring charges. Winston’s roommates/witnesses destroyed evidence and got their stories straight before the prosecutors knew they needed to interview them in the first place.

I’ve seen no evidence for this. I think the rest of us know who the real gold diggers are here: the people who suckle at Florida State’s teat for money or football fandom.

Date rape is a myth. I Googled, “Date rape is a lie.” and found this excellent blog post.

Would you mind calling some women I know? They’ll be surprised to hear this, so I’d rather they not get it from me.

I think we have to invoke Poe’s Law here, don’t we?

I mean, surely this guy can’t be serious, right?

Right?

You were who I was thinking of yes. After this thread, you’re certainly the only one I know of that I’ll claim as a fellow 'Nole.

dalej42Given your statements in this thread, dare I ask your favorite Greek letters?

Agreed. He knows what he’s doing here.

I’m also an FSU grad.

Go 'Noles! Didn’t mean to leave you out!

I was not in a fraternity during my years at FSU.

I’ve found the name of the accuser, so I’m going to name her as I said I would. I don’t believe any person over 18 should be able to make serious accusations, like rape, and remain anonymous. Her name is Erica Kinsman.

Who gives a flying fuck what her name is? What kind of moral code do you consult when you’re talking about this stuff anyway - is it just “YEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH FOOTBALLL!!” written in shit?
