Etiquette question re sharing a gift from someone else

What a recipient does with a gift is entirely their own business. Once you have given a gift, you have no say over what happens to it. That is the correct etiquette.

I have actually met and spoken to people who call soda “tonic”. One of the odder New England dialectical features. Right up there with calling a diner a “spa”.
