Etiquette question - talking about stereotypes in polite company

Talking about a topic in a way that is tiresome and boring is one thing but your OP was to the effect that in your view the topic was in itself one that was impolite to talk about.

Am I the only one who is confused here? OP, can you sort of relate a (fake or real) conversation like the one you are envisioning when you type this? I have no idea what you’re talking about. I’m imagining something like this:

Random Conversationalist: “I had to Jew him down off the price and…”

Ironic Deconstructionalist: “Hang on! Using ‘Jew’ like that isn’t right. It comes from the stereotype that Jewish people are stingy with money.”

RC: “Oh really? I had no idea”

ID: “Yes, in fact, blah blah blah Jewish stereotypes”

Is this what you’re talking about? I’d imagine not, but I can’t think of another scenario I’ve ever come across.
