The Eve Tribune, EVE’s longest running independent fan 'zine, is hiring. We publish all sorts of stuff, from battle reports to guides to technofluff articles to fiction. We’re always free to read, and we have a monthly readership of roughly 60 distinct IP addresses. And we’ve paid some of our writers enough to settle them down into capital ships.
We pay 20 million ISK per page of MS Word text, with a salary cap set at 100 mil for any individual article. Of course, you can submit and have more than one article published per week, if you feel like it.
The Tribune’s editorial philosophy is that EVE is a large enough game that there are always aspects to explore, and even a new player has a story to tell. So those of you who aren’t elite PvP’ers shouldn’t feel excluded - you’ve got stories to tell too. Even guides that explain basic issues from a new player’s perspective are a valuable contribution for someone out there.
Our writing standards are amateur rather than professional, and as long as you can keep up with the Dope’s general standards on spelling and grammar and write a coherent post here, you’d do fine.

Because I am amarr, and I mine, and my favorite exhumer is a hulk …and when I mine, sometimes I roam a bit far from home…and my hulk holds more than my bestower. I dont feel like diverting to learn an entirely different racial right now because i am targeted on certain skillsets I need. I can learn other racials when I have the time.
Currently been ninja mining in a skiff in a nice 0.4 system in amarr space that has some nice belts of jaspet…the new +2 warp for the skiff is NICE!
A bit off topic - anyone else having problem patching? It tells me at the login window that I have the latest patch(64451), but still it says “incompatible”.
To the OP I would be interested. I cannot speak to PvP much at all but can to industry.
Not sure what I could add unless you want an Op/Ed section. I can certainly ruffle some feathers as I often do on the EVE-O forums. Note I do so in the best traditions of the SDMB when posting there so I do not flame or rant but use compelling arguments and cites and so on where possible.
If interested let me know. Perhaps some good old fashioned controversy will boost readership. That or send everyone packing!
Sounds fine mole. Those who’ve already emailed me should have gotten some responses. I’m just getting back from a business trip and my mind is still blasted into a billion pieces by exhaustion, but I should be able to get the gears grinding for y’all.
Unless you are doing that to add a little spice to your mining know that a Hulk mining Trit in hi sec will make you more money easily (a simple spreadsheet will show you that).
I need the more unusual mins from the jaspet … and I dont want to buy them on the market, it would cost more than I can really spend on the project. Although I did hook up with a nice corp that works in lower sec and applied my alt to their corp. I like them much better than the corp SinLoi had been in. They are much friendlier. I am hoping that our corp leader will get into an alliance with them, as they are all about the missions and mining/industry end and not just PVP. [I wanted a lower sec corp for my fighter mission runner alt, to get experience handling myself in lower sec areas.]
Though I will admit, I am very interested in an orca.
The thing is you make more money mining the hi sec ore with a Hulk (a lot more). Then you buy the mins you need off market. While that price is inflated at the end of it all you have more money in your pocket.
Not to mention it takes less time thus reducing your opportunity costs. It may take (say) 2 days to mine what you need in a Skiff in Low Sec but only 1 day to mine and sell hi sec mins. You now have an extra day in which you can mission or mine more or whatever.
Best thing you can do is whip up a simple spreadsheet for this. It’ll easily show you the differences and I think you will be surprised at how notable the differences are. In short you’ll get wealthier faster in the Hulk in hi sec (not to mention a lot safer…lose just one Skiff and your balance sheet will dramatically shift compared to safe hi sec mining).
That’s actually the kind of stuff we’d love to publish. Have a good argument as to the best way to make relatively easy money in a Hulk, complete with numerical breakdown? Awesome.
Heck, we even allow outright rants as long as they’re cogent and coherent (and fact based).
I’d actually figure that the Tribune would be perfect for many Dopers. If you can write a post here to explain/expound on a certain subject, chances are you can already submit copy on the level that we require.

Please understand that things may take a little bit to sort out, as I’ve just gotten back from a long business trip and my mind is shattered by exhaustion. And I’m still learning the admin console to boot. But if you start the process I should be able to ue the admin console to grant you staff access. If not, it’ll take a little while as I puzzle out how to do it.
Oddly enough, I don’t go for speed, i tend to afk mine during the day in my hulk while I work [i telecommute and cant pay attention so i let the hulk work and the drones kill the baby npc rats that show up. Evenings is when I ninja mine =)

I have been doing the jack of all trades route. I can fly most of the frigates from Amarr, Caldari, and Gallente, Caldari and Gallente cruisers, industrials, transports, and freighters, and most Caldari ships below the capitals. Along with the various mining ships. Thinking about working on Black Ops next.
I had the Badger II, with maxed skills, and figured out that taking the time to learn the Gallente stuff would be worthwhile. Now I can take an hour or so to mine 3 jetcans in my Hulk, then haul it into a station in 2 trips. With lots of room left in the second run. But even learning the Amarr industrials would make hauling stuff much easier and faster then using your Hulk.
I am surprised that you are getting enough ore to make mining Jaspet with a Skiff worthwhile. Only one high slot and it is optimized for Mercoxit. I would guess that the warp bonus does come in handy in lowsec. I have certainly been glad a couple of times that I was using my Crane when hauling stuff in lowsec.
I have to say that lowsec mining doesn’t strike me as being terribly relaxing. Everytime I jump through a gate in my Crane, I am wondering if I will get through this time. You know you can find some Jaspet in .5 systems. At least in Gallente space I have done so.
That or send everyone packing!
