I had this last week, and I’ve been looking for a good excuse to make it at home.
It’s made like a layered dessert…
Graham crackers–bottom layer
vanilla pudding–next layer
Graham crackers–next layer
followed by vanilla pudding, repeat, etc. until there’s about five layers or so. The last layer should be graham crackers because there’s a thin layer of chocolate frosting on top of the final layer of graham crackers. Chill well then eat. The graham crackers become a bit moist (but not soggy)…oh, that was almost as good as sex, I’m tellin’ ya.
If you have any cooking skills at all, you should definitely try your hand at it. It can be made with or without an ice cream freezer. You could make any combination you want! You could put liquor in it to make it more adult. That’s something you wouldn’t find in the grocery. Making sorbet is a lot easier than you’d think.
It’s a brand made by Klinke Brothers. I just checked the container and discovered it’s only half a gallon, so I feel a little better about how much we’re taking in!
It’s so good though. It tastes just like the kind my grandfather used to make in his old wooden hand crank freezer.
This thread just reminded me that I’ve got some leftover bread pudding in the frig. Now I’ve got something to look forward to after work. Bread pudding is so comforting. And tasty.
I was hoping someone would mention bread pudding. We get eggs for free, and I’ve been making a lot of bread pudding lately. It’s a great way to use bread that’s on the verge of stale.
Lately we’ve been eating Dove ice cream bars, and I’ve been making a chocolate-fudge-pudding cake from a box mix. It’s awesome and easy, and I eat the whole thing by myself.
We keep a bowl of mini candy bars around too. The Milky Way dark is gone first.
And Werther’s – always have some Werther’s around.
My grandpa was fond of those orange spongy peanut shape thingies, and mom had to have anise candy and peanut brittle. Homemade.
Oooh. I’m going to the store this afternoon, and I may have to buy some Hoodsies for old time’s sake. How can you argue with a dessert that’s 6 for $1? My greatest disappointment though is that they don’t come with the wooden paddles, IIRC.
