Anybody For Ice Cream? What's Your Favorite?

Simple vanilla? Hot fudge sundae? Ice cream bar or ice cream sandwich? Cold Stone or Dairy Queen or Baskin Robbins?

In the Chicago area, we had something called the “Boston Shake” that I believe nobody in Boston (or anywhere else) has ever heard of; a very large cup filled 3/4 with a chocolate shake, then topped (1/4) with a hot fudge sundae. It was sinful, delicious and you really could only have one once a month in the summer as it sort of made you sick after you ate it.

Otherwise, I really like the Walmart generic French vanilla ice cream (sort of like Thrifty’s ice cream that is no longer sold here in Las Vegas) with any topping of the season. West Coast people will know the Thrifty’s ice cream I am talking about!

What is your choice?

Black Walnut is my favorite. Sometimes it’s hard to find. I think the nuts are seasonal.
Bryers is my preferred brand.

2nd choice is Orange Sherbet or Rainbow Sherbet.

I occasionally make coke floats at home. I’ll buy a pint of vanilla for the occasion.

I gave up trying to buy coke floats anywhere. The restaurant ones have too much ice cream and not enough coke. Sonic really makes theirs dry. You only get a few sips of coke in them.

Maggie Beer’s Burnt Fig, Caramel & Honeycomb is my once in a while indulgence.

I would say chocolate, but with many close seconds.

Unfortunately, for health reasons I won’t be eating ice cream or anything with empty calories. Actually, there can be some healthy ingredients in ice cream. Having a tiny portion treat would only be torture for me or like a first drink to an alcoholic so I must abstain.

Kemps Toasted Almond Fudge

Black raspberry chip for this guy.

From April through October, my town has a truck that delivers the best goddam soft ice cream in he universe. No other even comes close. That stuff is addictive.

Edy’s Double Vanilla with fresh rhubarb sauce.

Recipe:
Go out to the back yard.

Cut three or four stalks of rhubarb.

Wash, dice, and put in small saucepan with a little water and sugar.

Simmer on low until there are only a few chunks left.

Pour over ice cream.

Anyone love honey on their ice cream?

I like it on vanilla. Honey doesn’t work with the other flavors.

My favourites are Black Cherry and Heavenly Hash, but any type of ice cream works for me.

Also good is plain vanilla with some creme de banane liqueur drizzled on top.

Hmmm…Jersey, delivery van, addictive…

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams Brown Butter Almond Brittle (and next time I’m in Columbus I’ll be making a pilgrimage to one of the stores so’s I can eat it as freshly as possible).

Graeter’s Elena’s Blueberry Pie, Black Raspberry Chip, and Coconut Chip.

Pretty much anything from Ritter’s Frozen Custard.

Häagen Dazs’s Dulce de Leche.

And Ben and Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie and Berried Treasure sorbet.

There are no words strong enough to convey the deliciousness of this ice cream. We drop everything and run at work then we hear the truck. I know some of my neighbors only from seeing them at the truck. If the truck is there and cars stop to get the ice cream, nobody even notices.

Butter brickel from Mad Martha’s.

Just over two weeks until I can have it again!

For basic ice cream, good buttered pecan. With loads of pecans.

But all time favorite ice cream treat: Dairy Queen’s German chocolate Blizzard. Food of the Gods. It’s not actually shown on the menu any more, but they’ll make it for you if you order it. Getting one today in fact!

I’d love to try any one of these. Mmm, raw horse meat.

Dreyers French Silk. Trust me on this one.

Anything with a lot of stuff in it (chocolate, nuts, caramel, marshmallow, peanut butter, etc.)

Ah, but there’s only one worthy of the throne…know what I’m talking about?

Yes, Graeter’s! I see MTCicero beat me to it…I don’t think there’s a company that makes better ice cream than them. You should tour their facility sometime…they ship this stuff with dry ice all over the globe!
