Anybody For Ice Cream? What's Your Favorite?

Good news. The “Business Center” Costco on Martin Luther King sells awesome 3-gallon commercial-ice-cream-parlor type buckets of Thrifty’s ice cream for like $12, and you can go there with any Costco membership card (not just a business one). It’s so freakin’ good. My sister bought a thing of Chocolate Malted Crunch there that took us like a month to get through, and it was just amazing.

A Guinness float - vanilla ice cream with Guiness, topped with a dusting of cinnamon. Good stuff.

Standard flavor: French Vanilla. I haven’t found a good one in years, not much choice where I live.

Novelty: Ben and Jerry’s New York Super Fudge Chunk or Peanut Butter Cup.

And Oprah loves the stuff!

OK, now I hate it!

Oh my saints and angels, I’ve got flushed cheeks and butterflies in my stomach just from reading the description. The only US distributor is in Ringwood, NJ, which is a mere 3 hours away…

My favorite ice cream ever was Haagen-Dazs’ Caramelized Pear with Toasted Pecan ice cream, which, tragically, was a limited edition flavor that’s no longer available. I grieve still.

Homemade is the best, with the only contender being a local stand in the parking lot of a large chain store, where their “small” size is three scoops. If you want one scoop, it’s a “baby”. And the small is less than two bucks.

Mint & chip and pistachio.

Anything green I guess.

Actually all the flavors I had in Turkey were delicious. The consistancy of their ice cream was different too. It was sort of slimier. Lemon and sour cherry were my 2nd and 3rd pick in Turkey. I had the pistachio the most.

This is true. And the best flavor of homemade is Butterfinger.

Pretty much any Jeni’s flavor is wonderful. Being able to get Jeni’s sundaes is one of the best things about living in Columbus.

Pistacchio or dark chocolate from the neighbourhood gelateria. Or cassata Siciliana from Grom when I’m in the town centre.

Mint chocolate chip (Pierre’s is good, or Breyer’s, but really, I like just about any I’ve had).

Raspberry sherbet (ditto).

Ben & Jerry’s Heathbar Crunch.

And the occasional root beer float.

NC State Peach Ice Cream. You can only get it at the Student Center, and the NC State fair.

Besides my infatuation with Grater’s black raspberry chip, a well-made butter pecan still is up there in my top three.

My favorite of theirs was the fleur de sel caramel. I’ve since replaced it with a homemade salted caramel that knocks everyone’s socks off.

Great, why did I open this thread? I don’t have time to stop off at the grocery store for ice cream today!

There is chocolate and chocolate mixes. Then there are a bunch of pretenders.

Or a black cow, which is a root beer float that’s had a little visit to the blender.

Hey, does anybody have a good recipe for coconut ice cream that only uses ingredients that can be commonly found in the grocery store (coconut cream, for instance, I can’t find anywhere)?

Maple walnut is my favourite.

If we are allowed to cheat & add gelati, I like the lemon flavour best!

I’m reading this thread thinking I’m not the ice cream lover I thought I was - I don’t have a particular favourite flavour. I’ll have a small dipped cone at Dairy Queen, or a small chocolate soft serve at McDonalds (if I can ever find it), or a hard ice cream cone on occasion, but it’s not really my thing, I guess. Maybe that explains why I’m not interested in ice cream cakes.

Okay, back to your regularly-scheduled ice cream thread.
