I think that sums up most of my problems with Ebay.
Awwww…
It would not let me post the title in all caps! I guess that the SDMB admins have more brains then the folks at Ebay.
Thank you. This has been a pet peeve of mine too. I could really do without the ~~~~** bullshit too.@@@@@@
What is the "*****~~~~******* " part supposed to MEAN? I’ve seen this a number of times on eBay, and I’ve never been able to figure it out.@@@@@@
I never use that crap. I had an auction that went down just today and I titled it “Warhammer Chaos Nurgle Terrain Monolith!!!”. I guess I might be guilty of excessive exclamation points though…
And I thought you were posting drunk again.
I think on ebay it’s better to post in normal English, no exclamation points, because those titles are so rare they get noticed more easily, IMHO. Also, those titles make you seem more desperate.
It means “look at me look at me”
It means “I’m being unprofessional. Please buy from someone else.”
where is the dictionary for the Ebay lingo? LOL:D
I don’t go to eBay much at all, but if auctions are ever listed alphabetically, then those with the goofy titles will be listed before those in actual English… right?
I usually ignore those because they’re typically all the same seller with multiple auctions for the same crappy, brand-no-one’s-ever-heard-of item.
AnD dOn’T buY fRoM 13 yEaR oLd’S eItHeR!!!1
That would make sense, but they aren’t listed alphabetically. In fact, looking at the listings right now, I can’t figure out what the default sorting is based on (you can adjust it to sort by price, end of auction and a few other things). I think it’s sorted by time of posting.
Those geniuses who (much like anyone with a ~~Pretty~~Username~*~) feel an unstoppable need to show off their grasp of the ALT key aren’t the ones who bother me. I’ve been shopping for a wedding gown, and I am getting really farking sick of the bridal shops who list every single frickin’ item as “wedding gown tiara veil jewelery bride.” That tells me NOTHING about what you are selling except that it’s listed in the right category!! Bastards!
The thread title made me laugh when I saw it. Good one!
I just knew what this was going to be about.
Count me as one who finds that crap annoying too.
I see that i am not missing anything by not hitting the Ebay Pages. My eyes hurt now, even with glasses on.
It means: " Although I am able to use a computer and this would normally pre-suppose that I have an IQ in at least double figures, actually it means nothing of the sort. In reality, I have an IQ that a carrot would look down on. I am unable to express myself in any language recognisable by a chimpanzee, let alone a fully paid up member of the human race, but I am too stupid to notice. Using this terminology pre-selects suitable buyers for the egregious rubbish I have for sale. I only wish to communicate with mental pygmies such as myself, so advertising my presence in this fashion ensures pre-selection of said morons. What should really frighten you is the knowledge that I have the vote. Have a nice day."
Well, you can consider yourself lucky that things are at least in the correct category.
Oh man yeah. I do not understand how some people put house goods in ther automotive section.
I am fucking sick of the misuse and overuse of the word rare on auction listings. Generally, it is not rare, nor is it out of print or hard to find.
Ok, sure, but it sure as hell works. This posting will make 18 replies but 757 views of this thread. And it was posted today! Granted, I haven’t been on the boards very long, but I haven’t seen any other thread with under 20 replies but over 700 viewings in one day. Whether it pisses you off or not, it’s done its job.
That being said, it is really farking annoying.
Ohh! “HARD TO FIND!!!”
I forgot about that one.
