Wow. Not a word of agreement in the comments. Not only that, but most of the comments are fairly well-written. Blog wars!
Yeah, that is what I found most odd. I read the first dozen comments and they were all critical of him and all articulate. Very odd.
I actually laughed out loud at that story. Fucking hilarious.

PZ is one of my favorite bloggers. This totally cracks me up. I can’t wait to read the “official explanation” that they promise is forthcoming.
I had no idea what James Randi looked like, so I imagined a white guy, soft chin, pale skin, soft features, thinning hair, eyeglasses, and then did an image search.
Okay, so I was right about white guy, eyeglasses, and that’s about it. Not a very good guess for me.
On the other hand, I could probably stand Mr Randi next to my dad and put baseball caps on both of them and you couldn’t tell them apart.
So…distinctive appearance? I think not.
You don’t think so? I do. But I’ve also seen him on TV a number of times. He’s been in the public spotlight for 60 years. Dawkins, on the other hand, is not that distinctive looking and AFAIK has not had his face in the public eye nearly as much.
He’s been lampooned by South Park* (in a three-parter, no doubt; surely at least one of the episodes was screened at Bible study). I’d say he’s more recognisable than Randi, although neither are exactly household faces. You’d certainly expect people engaged in making an anti-anti-creationism movie to be more familiar with him than with Randi, no?
(*although granted, in real life he’s very rarely seen having hot monkey sex with transsexual kindergarten teachers. That may be what threw the film producers.)
I try not to get into the heads of those people.
But personally, it’s far easier for me to recognize Randi than Dawkins. To me Dawkins has a fairly generic look, like a basic businessman. Randi’s got that white beard and the glasses and stuff. That’s the kind of stuff I tend to notice. And like I said, he’s been a professional performer for over 60 years.
But you’d think that the event organizers would recognize Dawkins’ NAME, for Og’s sake.
That page crashes Safari with 100% efficiency. Not before I made it through the post, though. Go Dawkins go!
JRB
Especially because he was in the freakin’ movie! He obviously got recognized when he was inside.
There was some speculation in the responses that PZ’s beard gave him away. But speculating on what they were thinking makes my head hurt.
As a Minnesotan I’m disappointed that he theater manager told Meyers to leave the area. For me it’s one more strike against the Mall of America, or at least the movie theater there.
Great story!
i grew up watching Randi on TV, then reading his skeptical stuff. I say he’s distinctive. When they put his face on a Yanomamo on the cover of Skeptic a while back, I immediately knew it was him.
That’s fucking hilarious.
Second most awesome thing I’ve heard today behind Lofa Tatupu resigning with my Seahawks!

They were checking if you were Intelligently Designed?
I’ve been following the development of this whole scandal for the past few days, and I have to see it’s really depressing yet morbidly amusing. This site has a collection of all the links:

Oh man, I just plain out laughed…first at Miller trying to say ‘We took a haymaker to the face, need reconstructive surgery, can’t remember the number 3, but we’re doing great because of that!’ followed by everyone calling him on that nonsense. I wish his humiliation would cause him pain.
Just looked at all the comments on Miller’s blog, and there are now a couple of shills promoting the looney view. The spin now is that to get to the online movie invitation you have to register through a page on which it says (somewhere) that the purpose of of the organization is to promote the ideas of ID. This somehow means that those who DON’t want to promote those ideas were registering under false pretenses, and were therefor excluded.
Lame, seriously.
One thing you have to respect, though, is that he is leaving the negative comments up. That is, of course, assuming he has the power to take them down.
