explain Sharptons "shock the"

Okay.
I came home the other day.
Turned the tv on.
Walked into the kitchen.
I heard what soudned EXACTLY like jesse Jackson ranting and speaking enthusiastically.
Jesse jackson on tv?
Whats this?
I went and looked. It was Al Sharpton instead.
He was yelling something like “Shock the monkey!” or was it “Shock the donkey?”
Which was it?
And what on earth did he mean by it?

Believe it or not, it was spank the donkey.

I think he’s refering to the Democrat party mascot.

At least it wasnt a monkey.

It was actually “slap the donkey”, and Sharpton used it prior to the Democratic debate Saturday. From CNN:

“The way to move a donkey is to slap the donkey,” Sharpton, warming up for the debate, told delegates at the state party convention Saturday afternoon. “I’m going to slap the donkey until the donkey kicks and we are going to kick George Bush out of the White House.”

Thanks, I thought my feeble memory could retain it from hearing it in the car to booting up my machine. Aparently not.
