Explicitly saying the Jews are vermin earns a note and not a Warning. WTF?

I don’t know BPC personally, but I do know people of Jewish descent who don’t consider themselves Jewish because they’ve abandoned, or never had, the faith. So I was just guessing.

The call of bacon is hard to deny.

What does that even mean? They still have filthy Jew Blood coursing through their veins or what?

It’s my understanding that actual belief isn’t required to be a Jew in good standing. Just obeying the laws.

Huh?

Have you ever met or talked to people who were Jewish?

It’s a nationality that you’re born into.

There are plenty of Jewish atheists.

Anyway, I was just wondering why BPC phrased it like that rather that saying “I’m a Jew”.

Does he not consider himself Jewish?

If so, why not?

I ask because I’ve never known anyone raised by Jewish parents who responded like that other than people who converted to Christianity.

Actually, according to tradition, if your mother is Jewish you are a Jew regardless of whether or not you believe in God or obey the laws. That’s why there are tons of Jewish atheists out there.

Note, IMHO, if BPC doesn’t consider himself Jewish than he’s not, but it’s a really weird way to phrase it.

I’m hoping he can clarify.

WARNING WARNING WARNING
Way way way out of line.

To bring this matter to a close, Budget Player Cadet is being formally warned.

Ellen Cherry meant to go back and assign it but she has been out of town and not able to get back to the board, so I will do it.

Budget Player Cadet, I must tell you that anything, anything at all, no matter how small it might be, anything that is is any way untoward will be the last thing you will ever do here.

Thank you, Tuba and the rest of the staff for your consideration. I think that that was the exact right way to handle it.

Actually, I think it’s the exactly wrong outcome. It was a dumb joke, albeit an edgy one, that failed.

On the upside, given the new metric, it just became infinitely more likely that Elucidator will get banned.

Moving on, then… I personally thought chacoguy’s comment to Ibn Warraq didn’t deserve a warning. Obviously, he/she assumed (surely wrongly) that Ibn was disparagingly saying “once a Jew, always a Jew,” and parodied the anti-Semitic mindset that could have (though surely, in this case, didn’t) underlay that comment.

So, incorrect assumption, yes; a bit over-the-top way of expressing critical astonishment, yes; but no more than that. (Perhaps I’m unaware of some back story which does put this into “warning deserved” territory.)

And there is moderating in a nutshell.

I don’t agree with Chacoguy’s warning, for what it’s worth (little).

Edit: But yeah, I do agree with Smeghead’s point.

I’m offended by this! I have a nut allergy. My parents and grandparents had nut allergies. I’m oh-so-offended. And my aunts and uncles were sent to schools where some kids would routinely bring in peanut butter sandwiches. MODS, save me from this horrible offense I suffer!!!

Can you share with us the precise reason for the Warning?

Orders came down straight from the Rothschilds. It’s out of their hands.

edgierthanbismarck?

BPC, you screw up one more time and the mods will flatten you like a pancake

Moderator Note

This is ATMB. Personal jabs against other posters are not appropriate here. Don’t do this again.

The moderators don’t necessarily give the correct decisions. They give *final *ones. Which is the way it has to be, since universal agreement of the correct thing to do will never be reached.

You aren’t vindicated by this, imho. You over-reacted because you didn’t understand the nature of the joke and took unwarranted offense. But nothing can be done now, so meh.

Being a jerk.
