Whoa, watching this…it’s my old neighborhood in Watertown. They’re saying on CNN they have him surrounded.
It sounds like maybe they announced that they were scaling back then used helicopters to watch for him to come out.
The same way I know that water’s wet?
Holmes went into a theatre to kill people, Dorner set out to kill cops. Terrorism is systematic use of violence to create a climate of fear. I think, my opinion, is that when WMDs are brought into the picture, and deployed remotely, that’s getting into terrorism. Authorities could identify Holmes as the threat, he had a gun and was seen shooting people. Bombs in backpacks, detonated remotely, are not an easily identified threat. They are weapons of terror. Stab a guy on the subway, you are a murderer. Set off Sarin gas in the subway and even if you only kill one guy, you are a terrorist.
Put your pedantic need for a definition aside for a moment and think about it. In a city the size of Boston, it’s probably not unheard of to have three people die in unarrested violent crimes in a day. If the three deaths Monday were no different than any other three deaths, why are there suddenly 10K cops looking for one guy. Do you think that, just possibly, there is a definition being applied to this guy that’s different than the definition applied to a person who committed any other random murder in Boston? Somebody sure seems to think so, even if you don’t agree with me.
Typically for some ideological reason. That’s the open question here.
Not sure what you’re trying to point to. (I’m on a mobile at the moment.)
But what I see mostly talks in terms of organization and methodology, with what can be read as implicit references to ideology.
According to twitter they’ve caught the second guy. But this is very recent news, and I can’t confirm it.
MSNBC is reporting that people have seen a body in a boat, but they’re not confirming it or whose body it is if there really is one.
On the scanner they’ve said they’re bringing in a K9.
Now multiple dogs. “Make sure there’s no conflict between the doge if the subject flees.”
And: “still moving in the back of the boat.”
Looking at all of the cops concentrated in this one neighborhood I’m thinking this could be either the perfect time or the absolute worst possible time to commit a crime elsewhere in the Boston area.
I had thought of that, too. But if he’s wearing a bomb vest like the one found on his brother, it seems to me that he would wait until the police are closing on him and dentate it in the hopes of taking as many officers with him as possible. I just don’t see him holing up somewhere and shooting himself in the head. I think if he does take himself out, it would be in one final, grand gesture.
Also, he’s a terrorist by any rational definition of the word. I just can’t fathom why he wouldn’t be called one.
ETA - I wrote this out before I read that they’ve apparently caught him. I hope so. His testimony should demonstrate whether it was terrorism or not. But I believe it was.
News is reporting that he is still moving; not dead yet, but take anything on the news with a grain of salt.
Most (not all) definitions of terrorism require a political agenda motivating the action. If you believe these are disaffected crazies (a la, say, the Colorado movie theatre shooter) who don’t actually care about Chechen separatism/islamist/anti-americanism, then calling them murderers but not terrorists could be appropriate.
They’re probably terrorists though.
I don’t see any police activity…

Seriously, if you look at the address (67 Franklin) you will see a boat trailer.
It’s crazy to me how wily this 19 year old is. I’ve never met a 19 year old male with very much common sense. Their thoughts and efforts are usually focused on pu$$y and partying at that age.
The fact that this kid was on the lamb for 14 hours in one of the biggest cities in the country under curfew and being pursued by God knows how many cops is just crazy.
Fox News as of 6:31 PM Central time said they do indeed have him surrounded on the ground but still alive.
Yes!
i was thinking during the recent press conference, that in this man’s shoes i would hole up somewhere and wait. abandoned building, shed, culvert, some place like that.
it sounds like that is what he did.
WFXT is reporting he’s down but moving. Not dead, and they’re using some kind of robot to look for bombs.
And to remove the cover from the boat. There’s also a shed, but they seem to be focused on the boat.
In this man’s shoes, I would have been the F out of Boston by 7pm Monday.
He must be waiting for a flood.
