Well, I must have misunderstood it but your reply to Blank Slate’s observation about how natural it is for parents to be in denial sounded like “Yeah, right” preceded with a note on Russians reporting that mother and son discussed “jihad”. It looked like you were mocking parents’ denial and basis for that mockery was what Russians heard while listening in. You made the link in which it appears you took Russians at face value.
It kind of depends on what comes of their claims. I don’t totally discount them or give them total credence. Not based on anything the Russians said, I think the parents know more than they’re letting on. That’s why I was mocking them.
It’s possible.
Fireworks aren’t guns or fertilizer, though. Nobody keeps track of their sale and nobody was comparing notes. I just read a report that the older brother bought $400 worth of fireworks a few months ago. That wouldn’t have been enough, but I don’t think they were buying $20 worth of fireworks at dozens of stores.
I regularly buy $300 worth or more for the Fourth of July. It’s not a very big package either.
That’s what she said!!!

3 more people arrested in connection with the marathon bombings…for apparently helping bomber #2 at UMASS Dartmouth after the bombings…
I read that some of the people in the picture with Dzhokhar in Times Square were actually taken into custody and questioned immediately after the attack. They were students at the same school and were at that time not charged with any terrorist activity, but they continued to be held in custody because they had violated the terms of their student visas by not attending class regularly. One of them had a license plate which said “Terrorista#1”
Here is the article: http://bigstory.ap.org/article/lawyer-jailed-pair-shocked-boston-bomb-claims
I wonder if either of those kids is one of the ones in custody now . . .
One of the CNN commentators said obstruction of justice is a pretty weak charge. Hard to prove and doesn’t carry a big penalty. He speculated they may have given aid to the bombers afterward.
IANAL so I’ll take their word for it. These guys will probably be deported soon anyway because of their expired student visas.
Those are two of them, yes. NBC says they were detained on immigration charges and will be charged with lying to the FBI (or whoever) about taking some stuff out of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s dorm room.
Well thats a bit embarrassing. The FBI is chasing crazed bomb making jihadists and they nab a couple of lying college kids. ![]()
They must be pretty desperate to make arrests. Any arrests.
Now there’s reports that Saudi Arabia warned DHS in writing about the Boston Bomber.
We got warnings from Russia and Saudi Arabia that weren’t acted on. Yeah, lets spend our time busting college kids for lying.
The Saudis are officially denying it as well as denying they refused visa’s to Mecca to the bombers.
The FBI says they took his backpack out of his room sometime after the bombing and then lied about it. Do you not see that that could be pretty serious?
The U.S. and Saudi governments are both denying this.
And possible disposed of a laptop they’ve been digging for in a landfill.
Brilliant. His friends are as stupid as he is.
The FBI is being pretty chatty about this. They’re now saying these three twerps went into Tsarnaev’s room after the bombing, saw a backpack full of emptied fireworks, realized he was involved with the bombing, and decided to dispose of the backpack and his laptop to help him. And of course they lied about it afterward. That’s great stuff: the bomber was too stupid to dispose of the evidence, so his friends just decided to do it for him unbidden. I guess the two Kazakh students will be deported and the third (a U.S. citizen) is looking at jail time.
If you’re interestedpopehathas links to the charges against the three additional men.
I seriously doubt the Kazakhs will be deported before prosecution, unless the federal prosecutor drops the charges.
Having seen the kind of jail time they are looking at, you may be right. Especially if the laptop is damaged or can’t be found.
Has it been accepted that the bombings were religiously motivated yet?
My earlier comments were based on the breaking news. At that point they were only reporting lying. One of the CNN talking heads said it was a hard charge to prove and pretty meaningless. Lying to protect your friends is illegal but it’s not the crime of the century.
OF course 15 minutes later they start reporting that the backpack and laptop were removed and thrown out. That changes everything. Now they are saying two guys tampered with evidences. For a bombing case like this that’s big. They probably won’t be deported anytime soon. There’s still one guy only charged with lying to the cops. They may make a harsh example out of him too because this is such a big case that basically shut down Boston.
I should have waited longer after the breaking news banner appeared on CNN.
I think the only thing those guys are good at disposing of are weed and their educational opportunities.
They look like chumps. But if the police were tipped off about the bombing beforehand and investigated Dzhokhar, I’m not sure he would have looked like anything more then a chump either.
Wonder what the roommate is like. Build bombs or whatever, just don’t bug him while he’s studying.
