I used to have a plan to write a book called something like “Crossroads” or “Turning Points.”
The premise was that – for many of us – we can easily point to a specific time in our lives, and/or a specific decision or set of circumstances that Changed Everything.
I’d like to have interviewed these pilots in a few years. Going out on a limb … I can guess what incident would turn out to have been so seminal in their lives.

Well, at least they didn’t let the Andes into the cockpit. That never ends well.
All I could think as I watched the video on the news was “Why would you video something like this??” After all, illegal and potentially career-ending??
I have had that thought many, many times since the iPhone began to work its magic.
My former employer reminded us over and over that everybody has a camera, it’s always pointed at you / your workmanship, and no photo / video you yourself take will remain reliably private. And all of those things will bite you in the ass.
It seems they had a continuous low-level problem with pix appearing in public of shit that should not be happening, or pix that shouldn’t themselves have been taken even though what they pictured was ordinary and benign.

Letting them on the flight-deck to sit in the seat is stupid. Letting it be filmed is so stupid it makes you wonder if they just didn’t know the rules. Ignorant and stupid.
