Facebook is driving me insane...help!

Maybe I’m just missing it and someone will LMGTFY the obvious answer that I’ve just overlooked, but the new Facebook “lifestream” is driving me crazy. I really don’t care who took what quiz or who did what in some mafia game. I like the updates (mostly…don’t really care what you had for breakfast, but I can live with it…) and its cool to see who uploaded new pictures, but this stuff is getting buried in the deluge of mafia, quiz, etc updates. Is there a way to control what kind of information shows up in your main page stream (also the main page on the iphone app, which is what I use mainly…)?

Well, on the iPhone app, just click status updates when you’re on the news feed tab instead of top stories. I just shows the people’s updates. That pretty much my default. Not sure on the real thing, but I mostly use the iPhone app as well.

I just had to Google the acronym LMGTFY.

sigh

Wow…remember when I said someone would show up with the totally obvious answer I’ve been overlooking? Congrats, and thanks! I did not even notice that bar of options…Just the one above it with notifications and requests.

And I only used the LMGTFY to preempt smartasses, since I just complained about it in another thread…

And you didn’t share? Did you think you were the only one who didn’t know?

Let Me Google That For You

Funny, because the OP could have typed Google, which is also six characters, and also clear to everyone, in place of the abbrvtn, and conveyed the same meaning, minus the “in-crowd” knowingness.

That’s all, I have nothing to contribute about Facebook.

Mouse over the un-wanted update. A button will appear at the top right of the update that says “Hide.” Click on that. It’ll give you the option to hide either that friend or that app, choose to hide the app.

Some of the apps are stupid one-offs, like “Hide What Kind Of Parent Are You?” instead of “Hide quizzes.” But apps like Living Social (the “Pick your Top 5!” things) and Mafia Wars should be all-inclusive.

Sorry…I only used it since I had just replied in a thread about exactly that just seconds before starting this one. Wasn’t trying for any “in-crowd” shenanigans.

The worst part about the new layout is that people’s birthdays sort of get hidden, or at least don’t stand out like they used to. That’s 80 percent of my good will right there, gone.

Bless you.

those drive me batty too. I have a lot of friends who take random quizes when bored so they’ll do five in a row. Which of course causes several other friends to think that at least one of the quizes looks fun and next thing I know, I’ve lost the trail of my brother’s job hunt updates who’s having a birthday. sigh.

Thanks for the hide app tip. You’re my new best friend*

*my best friends send me chocolate just so you know.

I also hate that they’ve just changed the Friends page. Until yesterday, I could check out status updates without any of the other clutter, and then move on to “Recently updated”, but now they’ve gotten rid of that. The Friends page is utterly useless now.

I may have the wrong angle on this but when I mouseover “Highlights” I get no options. I don’t need to know about stupid quizzes.

You need to mouse over the upper right hand corner of the box, which is where the drop down will appear.

I’ve got so much stuff hidden it’s amazing I have a Facebook feed at all.

This is brilliant! Thank you ever so much!

Sadly Kyla it still doesn’t work for me. I have tried two browsers.
