What do you do when a friend is broadcasting way more than you’d ever want to know?
I signed up for facebook just so I could keep track of what my kids were posting. My oldest graduated HS last year, and she had a tight group of friends who were now going all over the country for college. I friended about seven or eight of them just to keep in touch since I had known them so well for so long.
Now one of them, the daughter of a neighbor, who I have known since she was two years old, is giving me way more insight into her life than I want. It’s not just text postings that I could skim over, it’s these quiz results that show as a big block of information that you can’t avoid. They’re always things like “How much do you want to have sex right now?” or “What’s your favorite position?” I know that kids grow up, but I really don’t want to know this about the girl I remember as a six year old hunting Easter eggs in her dress and bonnet.
I defriended her, but I guess that means she can’t see my stuff, but I can still see all of hers.
I don’t think you defriended her correctly. If someone is not your friend, their info should not be showing up in your feed.
And yes, one of my high school acquaintances likes to share way too much about his sex life online. I left him on my friends list, but chose to hide him on my feed.
You can just block those items if that is what is bothering you. Go to the upper right corner of the post–it should have an option to hide the poster OR hide the application. If you hide the poster, you won’t see any of her stuff, but if you hide the applications she will still be visible, just not anything dealing with that application. Depending upon how many applications she has, you may need to do this mulitple times.
I have an older friend who loves all that crap, I get on after her and she has like 12 postings in a row. I just block those applications and it leaves just her text info stuff, which I am fine with.
Oh, holy crap, you’re my hero! I have lots of friends who use those apps, and I am sick to death of reading what they need in Mafia Wars or that farm thing. I had no idea you could block just the applications. Thank you a million times!
Yeah you really do need to de-friend her properly. If you can’t figure it out, at least go to her last posting on your newsfeed and mouse over it, where the “Hide” button comes up to the right of the post. Then you’ll never see info from her again.
I already pimped the Facebook Purity script in another thread today but I can’t suggest it enough. Yes you can individually block Mafia and Farm whatever but you cannot mass-block quizzes. If you run greasemonkey + Facebook Purity your life will automatically get better.
You are most welcome! I just got tired of having to scroll down the page past 10 posts of stuff I didn’t care about to read anything. So I started playing around there and figured there had to be a way to block that crap.

Facebook is quickly becoming MySpace, but without all the mind-blowingly tacky page backgrounds. Soon it will be inhabited with creepy perverts, perverted creepy people, and imdb board rejects looking to get their message across.
