There are several new shows that I am quite looking forward to in the coming weeks. I’m certain that most of them are going to suck utterly and be taken off post-haste. If anyone wants to join in on their predictions and thoughts, I’ll make cookies for whoever is the most accurate in naming the shows that will get the axe but quickly and which ones will endure.
Here’s mine:
The Ellen Show Straight people aren’t going to watch it because it isn’t Will and Grace. Gay people are going to realize that Ellen isn’t particularly funny. I give it 8 episodes, all of which I plan to watch.
Undeclared College students will watch it for awhile when they’re stoned and then realize that their lives are nothing like it and go off in disgust to find a beer bong. Parents will simply be too horrified. Core audience: High school students who glorify college. I give it 4 episodes.
Wolf Lake Buffy does werewolves better. Plus they’ve cast a Noble Indian character which doesn’t bode well for the writing. I give it about 8 episodes. Core audience: People who wish it was the X-files before that show started to suck.
Love Cruise This will not be cancelled. It’s on Fox, for crying out loud. Core audience: Those who watched Temptation Island. I’m going to watch a few episodes because I helped do one of the castings and I want to see if any of the sheer asses that I met made it on.
Crossing Jordan I hope this one makes it if only because Jill Hennesy is my girlfriend and I want to see her at every possible opportunity.
Oh, there’s so many new shows… one hit wonders are ever so amusing.
[sub]You know what I miss? Snoops. That was a good show… shut up.[/sub]
One I was looking forward to, but sounds more and more like a stinker is Inside Schwartz. I give it the lifespan of the Michael Richards show.
Speaking of Seinfeld alums, I hear good things about Jason Richards’ new show.
I think this new show called Survivor 3 (according to the Emmy folks, it is a seperate show) will do well.
Star Trek should get meager ratings on the UPN but enough to make Paramount a ton of cash.
Smallville is puzzling to me. I think it has one season in it. There is nothing to directly trade on the Superman fame.
According to Jim (Belushi and Thorne-Smith) looks terrible
I’ll call Undeclared as a hit. It is getting great promotion and the Freaks and Geeks creator has been very critically acclaimed. A much better for with FOx than NBC (Freaks).
That’s 1.5 episodes too many in my book. In an ideal world, I envision this show being interrupted in the first 10-15 minutes. The producers apologize a la Kevin Kostner in that Simpsons episode. Then the show ends in an animated short involving a toilet, the show, and some monkeys.
I believe it’s Jason Alexander. I’ve seen some bad reviews of that show. Unfortunately for all the Seinfeld alums, they’ve got a lot to live up to in terms of expectations. I imagine this show isn’t any worse than 99% of the sitcoms on now…which isn’t saying much.
One show that’s gotten a lot of good buzz is 24. I don’t watch a lot of TV, so i’ll try to catch the first one of this, but if not, oh well.
I think 24 will be good, seeing as the concept is that it takes place over the course of one day, but the ratings will slump for the eight episodes where he does nothing but sleep.
Seriously, though, I think Smallville and Enterprise have great potential, but will most likely flop.
I am looking forward to the live-action The Tick, but I’m sure it will last no more than half a season.
My mom works at an Ad agency and during one of the board meetings, they got to watch some new fall shows. She was unlucky enough to see the Emeril show, and says it’s real stupid. And she’s a fan of Emeril, too.
For me, personally, I say that whatever show I really love, it’ll be canceled. It always seems to work out that way. You may be saying, “Well maybe the shows you watch suck,” but I did love Freaks and Geeks, so there you go. Which brings me to the show Undeclared. I think many will see this as a college Freaks and Geeks and become disapointed. Many kids from Freaks and Geeks are on that show…well…OK, so I counted two so far.
