Fallout TV Show coming to Amazon, April 2024 (No spoilers for at least a week)

From the games… “Yao Guai” aren’t found on the West Coat. They don’t appear in FO 1,2 or NV–except for in the Honest Hearts DLC in Zion National Park. It’s entirely possible that Titus doesnt know the term or knows the term but also knows Yao Guai were also called bears.

Maybe the showrunners just didn’t think a pun was appropriate.

Did I imagine it, or was there a throwaway line in one of the episodes about someone going bankrupt running a casino? I think it was the last episode when all the execs were plotting.

Nope, you didn’t imagine it. One of the execs also said something about 'making America great", though they left off the ‘again’.

I think it was Robert House mocking Frederick Sinclair. House owned and operated the Lucky 38 casino in Las Vegas (very successful) while Sinclair was in the midst of a very expensive and not very successful effort to open a new casino outside of Las Vegas (the Sierra Madre casino).

The Sierra Madre was supposed to open the evening of the day the bombs fell.

Both are from Fallout New Vegas. The Sierra Madre casino is specifically from the Dead Money DLC.

So a bit of a game Easter egg.

According to Fallout lore, Yao Guai was the name given to the mutated bears by the prisoners in the Chinese internment camps. The name seems to have spread into the multi-lingual survivors in the Zion National Park area. It’s entirely possible that other folks just call them mutated bears.

I’m not going to fault the show for calling them bears. Explaining the name Yao Guai takes a fair amount of time with pretty much no real benefit to the overall story.

I never played the games and had almost no knowledge of what they were about, other than generic “post-apocalyptic”. I thought the show was very good and am looking forward to season 2.

Still no desire to play the games though.

Yes, I do think there was some Trump-like jokes in there.

It really shows how not-generic the games are with their emphasis on humor and the various vaults you can enter and find out what kind of experiment they were running. Some for the potential experiments listed were real ones in the games.

I love that it has been 200+ years and stuff is still laying around like the apocalypse was a few years ago, Walking Dead style. Very true to the game, though.

Same. I’ve never played the games, but my wife is an avid fan. So I went into the show somewhat familiar with the setting. I’m really enjoying it. Like you, though, I don’t think I’ll be playing the games.

Macauley Culkin will be playing a recurring character in season 2.
