Family Guy 1/29/06

Pathetic, absolutely pathetic, no redeeming qualities in this week’s ep

then again, i HATE football, this ep held no interest for me

on a scale of 1-10, i give this one a .5 (and that’s only for the Stewie/Brian interactions)

to use a Comic Book Guy-ism…

“Worst…Episode…Ever!”

from the other thread

I liked it
Especially the “Shipoopie” number - and btw - identical choreography to the movie version of the Music Man

For the first time I watched a FG episode and thought repeatedly “didn’t the Simpsons already do this, like, twice already?”

The music number was hilarious as was Stewie as the bookie. Solid episode if you ask me.

I always like the musical numbers.

Ditto on the Stewie as crazed bookie. Shooting Brian in the knees was shades of Jack Bauer.

I like a Music Man reference, and I especially like an entire number from the show. The rest was a little, well, uninspiring.

I thought that was a horrible episode.

Normally I enjoy the random drawn-out gags, but the beatings just went on too long, and the musical number had nothing to do with anything.

The only part that made me even smile was psycho Jay Leno.

Simpsons, heck Flintstones did this one. Fred join a college Football team. I only laughed at the end when Bryan tossed Stewie into the Bus.

Now what are the chances we’ll get to see this sort of celebration next season? And just how many yards would the zebras penalize for?

I didn’t like the sports plot, mainly because I don’t care for sports. I don’t even know who that guest star was supposed to be. That said, I did like Peter’s car commercial. It captures exactly my image of celebrity athletes.

I found the Stewie the Bookie B-plot great. The pause between “That’s good O.J.” and smashing the glass in Brian’s face was timed perfectly. I thought the whole first-beating scene was good.

The second one was, I agree, overplayed. Were it not for Stewie shooting Brian’s kneecaps, it wouldn’t have been funny at all.

The whole “now we live in England” thing was handled with such disregard it came off like something you’d see on a recent episode of The Simpsons. Chris immediately picking up that wildly exaggerated accent was worth a chuckle, as was Leno’s dagger throw, but that was about all from that segment I found funny. It was a real wasted opportunity, too; with them being in Britain, they could have recalled one of the several British characters that appeared in the first run.

Did I just miss it, or did this episode run without that inane “animated nudity” warning?

Why is the portrayal of British people alwys so bad, haven’t we come past that? Are do British people think it is funny or are they offended?

Family guy tonight was not one for the all time best archive.

There was no warning this time. I thought it was funny when Brian got out of the shower, shook himself dry, and then put on a towel.

I thought this was pretty good. I don’t care for football, but the musical number made it all worth it, and so did the stewie/brian subplot.

I kept thinking the beating was straight out of some gangster movie, but I couldn’t think of which one. For some reason, I kept thinking of Mean Streets, but I have no idea why.

Thats exactly what I thought, and I love football more than anyone sane should. Giants steaming pile of shite.

i think what really annoyed me most about last night’s FG ep is this…

my local Fox station has pre-empted The Simpsons/Family Guy/American Dad for the past 2 or 3 weeks with bloody frelling football games, i HATE football, anyway, so the fact that it’s replacing the few shows i do watch pisses me off, and to add insult to injury, when FG does finally come back on, it’s a frakking football episode, GRRRRR!!!

i don’t watch much TV, as most of it sucks, i basically watch Battlestar Galactica, Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, so to lose the “Sunday Three” to a stupid, waste of time ball game is bad enough, but then to have FG be a football episode…aggrivating

What always ticked me off, even as a huge football fan, was when the games ran long and they’d start a brand new episode of King of the Hill already in progress.

There was one that was bumped like this, that didn’t reair until it went into syndication.

I feel your pain. If only using bittorrent to download tv shows off the internet wasn’t illegal, nobody would ever have to deal with crap like that.

That is why I am a firm proponent of IP and copyright law reforms. It really seems that they are doing more harm than good to society as a whole nowadays.

We seem to have similar tastes.

You should check out “Scrubs”. Starting with the beginning, if you can manage it.

The episode was… hit and miss. I liked the entire Stewie-Brian B-plot. Thought the musical number missed, mostly because it was so far out there and had so little to do with anything. The entire football plot was forced, and only had a few funny parts - Lois and Meg fighting over who got to peek into the shower, psycho Leno.

I’d give it, oh, a 3 or a 4 - whatever a third of an episode of pretty good hilarity and two thirds of “why can’t I fast-forward this” average out to.
