There was a bit in there that might have been an homage, but was probably just a coincidence.
In the movie Radio Days, Seth Green’s character and his pals are plane-spotting (this is during WWII) with binoculars. Finding nothing, they train their binocs on an apartment building, where through the window a voluptuous blonde woman can be seen dancing nude in front of a mirror. (She stops when she realizes she’s being watched.)
A few scenes later, when the viewer has almost forgotten this interlude, the school principal announces that the regular teacher is taking medical leave, and introduces the new substitute…the same blonde woman from the apartment window. She slinks into the classroom and begins writing her name on the board. Cut to the camera zooming in on the dumbstruck SG, as his friend moans, “Oh my god we’re all going straight to hell…”
The FG scene wasn’t an exact parallel, so it probably wasn’t a reference. Still reminded me of that scene, though.
Not to mention Meg. She’s had maybe three lines so far. Though I understand we’re due for a Quagmire episode soon, something about:
him becoming impotent.
I think the new episodes are very strong. The gags are working, with the obvious laughs being avoided. (The opening fart joke was great precisely because it wasn’t a joke—it was just Peter saying, “Hey everyone, I just farted!”) Who cares about how many plots the episodes have? Family Guy has never been about story. The one thing I think they need to watch out for is making Stewie too much of a queenie stereotype; you can quickly write yourself into a corner that way, and I’d like to see them revive his megalomaniacal side. Let him try taking over the world again, just for old time’s sake.
And yes, the You Can’t Do That on TV reference absolutely killed.
I can’t believe that anyone would complain about fart jokes on Family Guy. Lets face it, this show is LCD humour. Fart jokes were a big part of the inital run as well.
So, are you saying you don’t like the show? If not, why have you watched it enough to say that fart jokes were a big part of the initial run? :dubious:
Where the hell do you get the idea that I don’t like the show? I watched the entire initial run and will watch all of this run as well.
Re-read what I wrote - especially the first sentence. I know what the show is and I know what to expect. I would, frankly, be disappointed if it lacked the LCD humour that makes the show great.
Best example: in the ep where Peter thought Brian “ruined” Lois’ father’s prize dog. Peter refused to talk to Brian and in one scene sealed himself in a glass booth while having breakfast. He cut one and the result was hilarious.
Side note: try watching Peter AND listen to Brian and Lois’ conversation.
