Family Guy - 5/8/05

You’ve never had a cat that ate Christmas tinsel.

I think the fart jokes throughout the episode were following up on the L & O intro:

Or something like that.

This one started out well, but seemed to fall off about halfway through. still fun, though.
“I don’t know” splash

There was a bit in there that might have been an homage, but was probably just a coincidence.

In the movie Radio Days, Seth Green’s character and his pals are plane-spotting (this is during WWII) with binoculars. Finding nothing, they train their binocs on an apartment building, where through the window a voluptuous blonde woman can be seen dancing nude in front of a mirror. (She stops when she realizes she’s being watched.)

A few scenes later, when the viewer has almost forgotten this interlude, the school principal announces that the regular teacher is taking medical leave, and introduces the new substitute…the same blonde woman from the apartment window. She slinks into the classroom and begins writing her name on the board. Cut to the camera zooming in on the dumbstruck SG, as his friend moans, “Oh my god we’re all going straight to hell…”

The FG scene wasn’t an exact parallel, so it probably wasn’t a reference. Still reminded me of that scene, though.

No one has mentioned the van Gogh bit yet? That is probably my favorite part, next to some of the jokes mentioned above.

(paraphrased):“Oh, you wanted kids? I should of known before I got you this…” [Pulls out long, thin box]

Exactly! Mr. singular and I were cracking up, remembering the “tinsel surprise” our kitten gave us her first Christmas.

The best fart joke (and I’m not a big fan of fart jokes, but this literally made me do a spit-take) was Stewie’s
“Blast! I’ve broken a blood vessel!”

And :nudge: “love you” was a weird way to end it.

That was the best of the fart jokes.

I also loved when Stewie saw Peter’s briefs and said they looked like a Jackson Pollock painting.

There’s a serious lack of Quagmire, Cleavland and Joe. Quagmire running across the Law & Order opening is not enough!

Giggity, giggity, Gig-i-ty!

Maybe it was just me, but I busted a gut at:

“Brian! Captain Crunch was just here! Did you pass him on the stairs?!?!”

followed later by

“Hi Mrs. Lockheart, OHMYGOD WATCH OUT FOR THE STAIRS!”

Loved the Law and Order opening, but would have loved it more if there had been a Providence skyline instead of New York.

Loved Stewie blowing a blood vessel.

Not to mention Meg. She’s had maybe three lines so far. Though I understand we’re due for a Quagmire episode soon, something about:

him becoming impotent.

I think the new episodes are very strong. The gags are working, with the obvious laughs being avoided. (The opening fart joke was great precisely because it wasn’t a joke—it was just Peter saying, “Hey everyone, I just farted!”) Who cares about how many plots the episodes have? Family Guy has never been about story. The one thing I think they need to watch out for is making Stewie too much of a queenie stereotype; you can quickly write yourself into a corner that way, and I’d like to see them revive his megalomaniacal side. Let him try taking over the world again, just for old time’s sake.

And yes, the You Can’t Do That on TV reference absolutely killed.

Does anyone know if they actually used the guy from Law & Order for the opening parody?

The Griffin men are Ballchinians, aren’t they?

According to TV Tome, that is in fact Steven Zirnkilton, the narrator of Law & Order.

Or Easter grass. :yucky smiley:

I can’t believe that anyone would complain about fart jokes on Family Guy. Lets face it, this show is LCD humour. Fart jokes were a big part of the inital run as well.

So, are you saying you don’t like the show? If not, why have you watched it enough to say that fart jokes were a big part of the initial run? :dubious:

Why come in here and fart in this thread?

“Do you have a picture of yourself I could tape to the back of Lois’s head?”

Where the hell do you get the idea that I don’t like the show? I watched the entire initial run and will watch all of this run as well.

Re-read what I wrote - especially the first sentence. I know what the show is and I know what to expect. I would, frankly, be disappointed if it lacked the LCD humour that makes the show great.

I didn’t *assume * you didn’t like it. Read my first sentence. It’s a question, asking you if you don’t like the show.

Anyway, now that that’s cleared up, I agree with you.

The opening lines are now my ringtone. I am so cool.

Best example: in the ep where Peter thought Brian “ruined” Lois’ father’s prize dog. Peter refused to talk to Brian and in one scene sealed himself in a glass booth while having breakfast. He cut one and the result was hilarious.

Side note: try watching Peter AND listen to Brian and Lois’ conversation.
