Family Guy May 15th

What the hell? Tne chicken again? It was hilarious in the first episode but it just looks like they had a couple of minutes to fill in this episode.

I think they were going for the “WTF?” factor there, but let it go on just a bit too long for it to really work.

In fact, I think it would have worked better like this:

Peter: And second of all-

[Chicken enters and punches Peter]

Peter: Ow! I mean, ow! What-what the hell? I’m trying to have a conversation here! Do you mind?

[Chicken looks sheepish and slinks off]

Peter: Now, where was I?

Okay, that Chris and Peter in bed scene has to be up there in the most messed-up jokes from the whole series.

Wow that episode… well it sucked.

Heh, Star Wars ANH ending

Best. Ending. Ever.

The length of the chicken fight is what made it funny. It was over the top, just seeing the chicken again, and then to drag it out again made it extra funny. Plus we’ll be seeing him again as they clearly did the old sequel trick of showing the chicken’s foot (talon?) move again.

Peter going into his son’s bedroom was funny. When the didn’t show whos room he went into next I was thinking “This is going to be so wrong if he goes into his daughters room next”.

Ohhh yeah! heh heh

it was nice seeing the rest of the Quahog gang as well

Some freakin’ sweet jokes:

[spoiler]- Quagmire hanging above the toilet. Great, shocking shot. I wasn’t expecting him there.

  • Brutus hauling the hobo away.
  • The chicken. Sorry, but it was hilarious.
  • Peter and Chris… and then Stewie.
  • The tricked-up Big Wheel.

It’s my favourite 22 minutes of the week.

Lordy, that was an awful episode. Reminiscent of late-season Simpsons in the complete lack of anything resembling a narrative arc.

Liked the Keebler elves, though.

It was definately a weak episode, IMHO, but it did have it’s moments, like God accidentally starting a fire in the bar and Cleveland as the auctioneer, and Judd Hirsch building the nuke.

God: Jesus Christ!

Jesus: Yes?

God: Get the Escalade! We’re out of here!

Some of the reactions are surprising me a little. I actually thought it was a pretty good episode, and probably the best of the ‘new ones’ so far. It was very Family Guy - there’s a lot of random jokes that don’t really make any sense, but that is Family Guy. Narrative arc has never been a particular strength of the series, other than as a setting for a bunch of the jokes.

As opposed to each of the Simpsons episodes tonight, which probably had marginally more coherent plotlines but made me laugh maybe once or twice each and made me cringe too many times to count.

Eh, not so good. The Simpson’s episode the preceeded it was a lot better.

I agree with Kiros. I thought the Family Guy was excellent and definitely reminded me of the earlier seasons’ sense of humor. The American Dad that followed it was actually a pretty good combination of a coherent plot and WTF humor, but still not as good as Family Guy (and I seriously doubt it ever will be).

“The elves came out of trees! Out of the trees!”

I thought it was great, particulary the chicken fight. Yeah, it made no sense whatseover, but Raiders parody at the end was just perfect. The Kebler Elf thing and Judd Hirsh with the nuke was pretty good too.

Also, I’m glad Peter mentioned the thing about Bonnie being perpetually pregnet. I was about to say the same thing myself.

Though then again, I thought the last two were pretty good as well, even though last weeks wasn’t particulary popular around here.

Ugh. I think I enjoyed American Dad as much as this - and even that had a consistent plot. The chicken? Yeesh. I hope this show doesn’t turn out like star wars or weezer

I was expecting Brian. I knew that even FAMILY GUY wouldn’t have the guts to have to do that scene with Meg.

See, I disagree. Most of the season one and season two episodes, when the show really hit its stride, combined wonderfully random jokes with a really solid narrative structure. Take To Live and Die in Dixie, for example, or the one with the froglicking, or the one where Meg gets a job at the TV station, or the cult/Stewie’s birthday.

Lemme ask you a question: What was the plot of last night’s episode?
