Fan Fic help, por favor.

I am under the weather for the past two days and little trips to the computer are short lived. Laying in bed with a portable DVD player nearby, I can give in too all my guilty pleasure/fan girl obsessive movie lurve which make my husband roll his eyes at me watching that again.

Watching PotC 1 and 3 ( #2 has strangely gone missing and I have duplicate copies of 1 and 3 ( all store bought.) I clearly remember some kind doper directing me to well written fan fic at fan fiction dot net some time ago during the first spasms of fandom of this series. Nothing is better for a pity party than some Captain Jack Sparrow. YMMV.

The story that I thought was entitled " Silence of the Deep" by Baclutha
( something similar to that.) I’m pretty sure it was never finished, but what was done was awesome.

I had bookmarked it, but it is lost forever when my computer took a crap some time ago.
Also, if anyone has well written fanfic for the following: Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Iron Man My new favoritist! I would be greatful.

Thanks!

Hey, I’m always up for pity parties and convalecence.

Anyway, a search of fanfiction.net reveals one pirates fanfic titled “The Silence of the Deep,” dating from '03—'06, but with an author named “Unknown Shore.” Although it’s possible that they changed their name, or use(d) a different one on a different site; or that the original story’s author never posted it or simply pulled it from fanfiction.net at some point. (I hate it when that happens :frowning: )

That is indeed it – her bio page states that she changed her name from Balclutha (note spelling).

As far as other fanfic goes, I can recommend some excellent HP fic, though it will focus on the Marauders if that floats your boat. To show you the type of thing that floats my boat, I’ll share one of my all-time favorites: A Fair Fellowship of Young Squires, which is from Sir Cadogan’s POV of all things, and focuses on his impressions of James, Sirius, Remus and Peter (though none are named). Just a beautifully written all around, and (as does much of After the Rain’s writing) contains a particularly nuanced view of Peter as a boy; he’s not the icky, unlikeable twit that Rowling showed us in Snape’s OotP memory. but a kid whose friendship with the others is more understandable.

If you like the Marauders or specifically Remus (my specialty) I have lots more good stuff to offer. In the meantime, hope you feel better!

You are AWESOME!!!111!!!
Thanks!

ooooh, I am intrigued! Thanks!

Holy crap. I am After the Rain. I can’t believe somebody on the Dope recced my stuff!

:: blushes like crazy ::

Anyway, if you like plotty, reasonably canon-compliant Harry Potter fics, I’ll offer some plugs for a couple of my favorite authors, SnorkackCatcher and FernWithy.

For Jane Austen and other offbeat fandoms, you might want to check out the Yuletide archive.

Someone on the Dope pointed me toward this story a few years ago. It is OUTSTANDING. It is also very long, so don’t start reading it at 10pm (like I did) unless you want to sit up all night finishing it (like I did).

Heh, I knew you were A_t_R, but I didn’t want to say anything in case you didn’t want to be outed. (Your screenname is hard to forget, as I’m a Wodehouse fan too.) I’ve actually recced that story before on my appropriately named lj remus_recs. Which has been woefully silent since the bleak July of 2007.

Many thanks for all your fabulous, lovely stories.

Seconding the recommendation for the wonderful FernWithy! And JessPallas too, if you like 'em long and Remusy.

Nightingale, Hinge of Fate is excellent – I believe that was the first HP fanfic I ever read. Should warn that it’s Hermione/Snape (albeit 7th year and very AU), and there’s some n/c stuff in there, so if anyone’s squicked by that…

Maybe you guys can help me. I started to read a fanfic once - it was a crossover between Tom Clancy’s Ryanverse and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Basically the Rainbow team was sent to investigate strange reports coming from Sunnydale, California. It was interesting but I didn’t finish the story. I can’t remember if I put it off to later or if the author left it unfinished.

Possibly Rainbow Over Sunnydale?

That’s it, thanks.

Holy cow.

I used to read a lot of fanfic, see, and I think I remember the name After the Rain. I got Lit’rachoor and stopped reading most fanfic because it curdled my stomach, but A Fair Fellowship of Young Squires is really excellent. With the Harry Potter books it isn’t hard to give more nuance to the characters than was made explicit in the books; this is unfortunate perhaps for the writing of the books but very fortunate for fanficcers.

I can’t figure out what else of yours I’ve read though. Did you ever write any Discworld fic?

Nope. Actually, I’ve never read Discworld, although people keep telling me I’d like it, so I probably should.

I’ve written a lot of HP (less after Deathly Hallows came out, since I think what really drove it was trying to work out what was going to happen next, and besides, JKR killed off most of my favorite characters), and a bit of, um, Shakespeare fic. (Hey, what’s the point of getting a PhD if you can’t write fanfiction about your dissertation texts?) Oh, and a couple of one-shots about The Graduate, but that really is a fandom of one

Most of the stuff I read tends to be on the slashy side…if you think you might enjoy that, drop me a note and I’ll supply you with some of my bookmarks (Jack/Norrington & Harry/Draco, mostly).

On the non-slashy side of things, I recommendThe Changeling (I though it was “Fred wants a dog”, but that’s the first line of the summary, actually). It’s excellently written, and you’ll never see the twins the same way again.

I also love the first story in this link: End of the Line, which features Snape, plus the Pratchett Discworld Death. Sounds strange, but is a great story (and I think I’ve got something in my eye, there, allergies acting up). My, I never noticed it had sequels, until now!

Wow. I just read The Changeling, and I am BLOWN AWAY! That’s perhaps the greatest fanfic ever, just due to the approach that the author took.

Am off to read the longer stuff now. Enjoying the recs immensely, keep em coming!

These are all awesome!
I’m going to be very busy doing nothing.

THanks!

Gixi on LiveJournal sometimes rights VERY porny and slashy Iron Man fic, but that’s about all I know of the Iron Man fandom, and I only know them from the Robert Downey Jr Kink Meme.

Also, anything written by Sam the Storyteller (sam-storyteller.livejournal.com, not all stories SFW) is brilliant. Harry Potter, Good Omens, PotC, Doctor Who, and more!

I’ll try to find it for you, I’m having trouble now but a friend wrote a fic with Elizabeth and Jack that was really good.

I’ll be watching this thread for interesting stories, already saved some to read later!

Having just read it, I still prefer The Next Great Adventure. The Death in End of the Line doesn’t really seem much like the character Death at all.
