Fanfic Ahoy! The Pirates of the Caribbean fiction thread

In the last few pages of the main PotC thread here, this discusison has turned to fanfiction, and it was agreed that we need our own damned thread for such a momentous topic.

So this is that thread. Post your fic recs and works-in-progress here. Natter on about your favorite pairings. Tired of reading about “rum-flavored kisses”? Pull up the corpse of a Mary Sue and tell us all about it.

I’ll start things off with by re-recommending “The Silence of the Deep” over at Fanfiction.net It’s a WIP, but I see very good things in its future.

Have at it, me hearties!

Ha ha! Look who futzed the list tags! Mods? I’ll be your best friend…

This looks like an excellent thread to delurk in. I’ve got a couple of recs up at my PotC related webpage, one of which is the fantabulous Slashers of the Caribbean, a slash parody.

It’s my policy to stay the hell away from ff.net because of the Mary Sue overload and the generally badly-written stories. Sure, there are some gems on that site somewhere, but it’s not worth my time to go hunting for them.

Pirategasm is my favorite LJ community; it has quite a bit of good fanfiction and the occasional posting of good (and not-so-good) fanart.

Um, excuse me, but could someone explain to me what “Mary Sue” means? I gather it’s not very complimentary, is it? By the way, I enjoyed the story.

Gladly. The term originated many moons ago in Star Trek circles. A Mary Sue is an original character in a piece of fanfiction who is clearly a better, stronger, faster, prettier, etc. version of the author. A better, stronger, faster definition is here. (That site is a great fandom resource for the uninitiated.)

Mary Sues are popping up like Whack-a-Moles in PotC fandom because, well, there isn’t a Livejournal community called “do_me_captjack” for nothing!

Junie,
Who once roleplayed Mary Sue the Vampire Slayer in an excellent gaming group.

There isn’t nearly enough Pintel/Ragetti fic out there.

You say that like it’s a bad thing.

Welcome to the SDMB, Grimmauld. Thanks for the link to Slashers of the Carribean. I LOVE IT!

I’m going to send that link to all my friends who love slash!

Damn your eyes, racinchikki! You posted that and now I’ve got these Pintel/Ragetti ficbunnies nibbling at my toes! And I’m at work, too!

It helps that, when not playing a filty, one-eyed pirate, Mackenzie Crook is, like, the hotness.

I can see it now; The Secret Diaries of Will Turner:

racinchikki. have you read this yet? Long drabble about Pintel and Ragetti after the end of the movie. I saw another story somewhere, involving them shopping for a glass eye, but I can’t find it now.

From The Very Secret Diary of Jack Sparrow

Love it! Is there anymore?

No, but if you’re very nice to me, there could be.

curtsies nicely Pretty please with sugar on top?

Good one! More, please? Pretty please? As pretty as Will Turner, please?

There are, as far as I’m aware, three P/R fics out there at the moment - the one linked to, the one with the glass eye, and this sonnet, for which I owe the author (who’d been kidding) a drink, as she’d been joking about getting stuck writing it and I’d been horribly amused by the whole idea. I think Pintel and Ragetti are cute together. Of course, P/R SMUT would be horrible and I’d have to gouge out both my eyes.

Oh, well, I was thinking purely in terms of smut, racin, which explains my initial disgust. And which also speaks volumes about what’s going on in my head lately.

Sweetie, if you make that OT3-y, I will love you 'till the day I die.

Or that day I leave the PotC fandom, which will probably be somewhat before then, but still a good long ways away.
