Fantasy football early general discussion

I’d like to try a yardage-only league sometime, if you wanna do one of those.

Or a hybrid auction/draft league: you do a round 1 as an auction, with bidding on the NFL.com (or whoever) top 12 ranked players, then a conventional second round, then an auction again for the third round (with the top 12 remaining ranked players up for sale), then draft in the fourth round (snaked), and so on.

I just came up with that.

The auction league is still recruiting if anyone is interested.

I still want to start one of the whacky leagues this year - extreme depth, no bench, efficiency, whatever. Anyone have a preference?

There are also the yardage pools and wagering competitions I’m considering.

Gotta link?

I had my pay league draft yesterday, and i’m pretty pleased with my team. I had the third pick. Here is the rundown:

1.) Westbrook RB Phi
2.) B. Edwards WR Cle
3.) Houshmandzadeh WR Cin
4.) W. Welker WR NE
5.) D. McNabb QB Phi
6.) Kevin Smith RB Det
7.) M. Forte RB Chi
8.) D. Bowe WR KC
9.) M. Bulger QB StL
10.) J. Fargas RB Oak
11.) A. Gonzalez WR Ind
12.) Sidney Rice WR Min
13.) Steelers Def
14.) Chris Johnson RB Ten
15.) Panthers Def
16.) Gould K Chi
17.) Hanson K Det

We play a PPR league so i went WR heavy. I did break my rule of not having a QB and RB from the same team, but Westbrook catches the ball almost as much as he rushes it, so I didn’t really mind. I also took my backup QB a little earlier then I would have liked, but there was a run on the position and I didn’t want to gamble with injury prone McNabb. The Edwards pick fell into my lap cause I think the others were scared off by the Browns QB troubles, but I’ll take him there everytime. It was also decided that I have a fetish for rookie RB’s, but thats another matter.

I really like that team. Westbrook is a excellent pick in a PPR league and the top three WRs are all going to have huge years and catch a lot of balls. McNabb and Bulger as your QBs are a little suspect because I think both guys will miss serious time due to injury but hopefully you can get another guy as insurance off the wire. There are an uncomfortable number of rookie RBs but you picked all the right ones, especially Forte and Smith. I love Rice and Gonzales as your bench WRs, I have both as great sleeper candidates. One thing though, why in the name of all that is holy did you draft 2 kickers and 2 defenses? You have to be shitting me, you could have certainly drafted another QB like Schaub, Ryan or Warner in the 13th. Also, no TE? What type of league is this?

This league has a $10 transaction fee for every trade and waiver pick-up, so it was to save $20 down the road. I’m cheap, I admit it.

We also don’t have a concrete TE position, but a WR/TE slot. The starting positions are: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR/RB, WR/TE, K , and Def. So I could of taken one, but all the elite were taken early, and the decent ones were gone by round 5/6.

I do agree with you on my QB situation. I was thinking of picking up a third, but there are still quality QB’s on the wire if needed. In reality I couldn’t help myself and just kept stocking up on the WR position.

Bah. McNabb will be fine, and you’ll win your league.

Is there a salary cap league this year?
