Fantasy football early general discussion

Sweet! I’ve never been so happy to get an email. The season is finally almost here! I need a hobby that isn’t work to occupy my time until the end of August.

Now that you guys have completely broken my feelings by berating me over choice in draft times (sniff), I changed it to Tuesday the 26th at 10pm eastern. Good?

(I forgot about labor day weekend.)

That works perfectly for me. Thanks.

I didn’t get an email for the league (I was supposed to, right?). I’m having a lot of trouble with Yahoo, I hate that site. My Yahoo mail account has been deactivated, and because Yahoo sucks, I can’t possibly reactivate it. I don’t know what to do.

ESPN is free, but I think live scoring costs money, and I think it costs per team (or in a bundle of two). Their interface is a little cleaner than Yahoo’s, but it’s probably a lot easier to manage everything through Yahoo.

What’s with all the name switching? Oh, wait, I remember now - you’re the guy who’s going to be buying me beers on Dec. 15 every time the Browns score, right? By the third quarter when it’s 72-3 I’m going to be passed out and you’ll be sobbing quietly.

Yep, you’re in. The league ID is 253092 and the password is the same as last year. If you don’t remember it I can send you an e-mail invite if you give me your address (tried to send password via PM but you seem to have them disabled).

IF the Browns even score. “You’re the guy” sounds remarkably impersonal considering I taught you everything you know last season. I changed my name because my subscription expired and I wanted a new name. Has a team ever changed city/logo/nickname the year after a championship? I hope I’m not tempting fate…

I finally got Yahoo to let me reactivate my email account and see the league, so I re-registered. Everything is clear sailing from here on to my second consecutive championship. (The PM thing is fixed too).

Sorry about last season. I was having computer issues, and could only get on twice a week while at school. Have no fear this season though.

I renewed the auction league and everyone from last year is invited back. I’d be happy to run this league with more people so if you’re interested feel free to post or PM me.

I participate in a highly competitive 10 team pay* league. This league has a standard scoring system with the addition of a point per reception. I’ve got the third overall pick, and have been privy to some of the others draft strategies.
From what I gathered LT is going first, and Steven Jackson could jump up to second.

My question is “should I take AP since he seems to be falling to me, or take Westbrook?” I’m leaning towards taking Westbrook, and my reasoning is that his reception points could make up for his lack of rushing yards compared to what AP is capable of doing. What do you guys think?

  • $100 dollar entry fee, and $10 per transaction fee. Winner takes all which is what makes it highly competitive

In a PPR league, you could make the argument for taking Westbrook first overall. Definitely snatch him up if he drops to you at third. Taking Steven Jackson second is sooooooo last season. I’m putting LT, AP, BW, and Joseph Addai ahead of him this year.

Westbrook is usually a PPR monster, but… how old is he now?

I’m considering getting into a money league this year since I tend to do pretty well, but I’m not sure how to start.

At Ellis Dee’s suggestion, I checked out the ESPN auction draft interface in a mock draft. It’s pretty good. We could consider using it and then importing the results to a yahoo league. Accounts are free and it takes under a minute to set one up.

What a slap! in! the! face!

  1. But he has only topped 200 carries twice in his career, so he’s as fresh as a 28 year old RB with 6 years in the league could possibly be. And even though he is almost always hurt, the last two years have proven that Westbrook hardly misses time, and is as consistent as running backs come. He is definitely the third pick in that position, and I would be in a tough place trying to decide between him and LT this season in a PPR league.

At pick #3 I need to get someone who can get those reception points since the top five to seven WR’s will most likely be gone by my 2nd pick.

Don’t forget to check out my Prop Bet Extravaganza (featuring cash prizes). Don’t worry if you forget to make picks just yet, as I’ll no doubt be spamming most of the fantasy and pick 'em leagues.

I’d be interested in a (moderately priced) money league – if it happens, I’d recommend having an auction draft, but either way is fine.

Question: would it violate the board’s rules to have such a league?

What?

Guy’s only 28. Plus, his first two years in the league, he was behind Staley in the depth chart. As long as the Eagles plan on trotting out guys like Hank Baskett as starting wide-outs, the guy can’t help but catch 80 balls a season.
Oh, I’m down with the ESPN draft, provided it moves to Yahoo. I’m just not a big fan of ESPN’s draft interface (it helps Yahoo out a lot that their screens don’t automatically scream ‘non-work related’ from across the office)

He didn’t start much during his first three seasons, since Duce Staley was still the Iggles’ primary tailback at the time, so he’s only got 1,014 carries on his body - and he’s never had more than 278 in a season.

Much like Tiki Barber, I think he’ll just keep getting better with age, provided his legs don’t give out.

ETA: On the other hand, I refuse to draft him in the top half of the first round, except possibly in a PPR league, because he’s always on the injury report and I hate hate hate desperately scanning for a player’s game status on Sunday morning so I can finalize my lineup.

Fuck it. Never mind

I started the threads for:

SDMB All-Pro Fantasy Football

SDMB Fantasy Football Auction League

SDMB NFL Pick 'em and Survival Leagues

I’m still considering running one of the other leagues I mentioned earlier - extreme depth, no bench, and whatever other random ideas someone wants to come up with. Any interest?

I’m still also considering the wagering pool (Varlos’ prop bet thread is cool but it doesn’t cover the same territory exactly) and the yardage pool ideas. Interest?
