That is correct. Some other possible (the league hasn’t had to declare, so this is just a guess looking at the rosters) keepers include: Vincent Jackson, Jermichael Finley, Bowe, Crabtree, Britt, Santonio Holmes, and Jeremy Maclin. Mostly 2nd tier WR’s and a 1st tier TE. So there will be a significant shortage on early-mid round talent.
Really?
Most rankings I’ve seen have him as a top ten WR. Which going by the rankings almost answers my question, but I didn’t know if there would be more value in getting a middling RB or stud TE instead.
How out of touch am I? I thought he was a WR.
He is.
Okay, I misread. I took that the previous post’s reference to a stud TE to mean Wallace is a TE.
Yeah, I stand by my opinion that you could probably draft him in the 6th, but obviously I could be wrong. Maybe not in a typical keeper league, but a 10-man league where only 1 player per team can be kept, and only if they were drafted after the 4th round? Yeah, I think he’ll still be there in the 6th.
EDIT: On reread – I’m having the worst time parsing the conversation, heh – I see owners can take an optional second keeper, which is what prompted the question in the first place. Maybe that impacts it, maybe it doesn’t, since those extra keepers are 4th round picks, meaning the 6th round comes sooner. Are the guaranteed one keeper always 5th round picks, meaning the 5th round effectively gets skipped entirely?
No. The guaranteed keeper comes from players that were draft in the 5th round and on from last years draft. So there is no skipping of a round to keep your first player, since everyone must keep a player. If you wish to keep a 2nd player from this pool you forfeit your 4th round pick this year. it really isn’t a keeper league in the usual sense, more like a team may franchise up to two players from last year.
Anyone want to share their sleeper predictions for this year? I think Josh Freeman will throw 30 touchdowns, but I’m not sure he really qualifies.
We have an opening in the SDMB big league, the 20 man auction draft league that’s very deep. We draft on Tuesday at 9:15 eastern. If you can make the draft, you’re in - just need one person to confirm they’ll take the spot.
If you can’t play the whole year, would someone be interested in just doing the draft? I can set up a co-managed team where you can use your yahoo account to log in and draft for one of our missing players. You can treat it as a challenging mock draft against real people. You don’t really need to worry about screwing it up since if he didn’t pre-rank anyway his draft will be a waste.
It’s for the 20 team big league, auction format, takes place tonight at 9pm eastern. It’s definitely a different sort of challenge, so if you want in, let’s get this sorted out soon.
I’m game for draft-only if the need is still there at draft time.
Co-manager has no drafting priviledges unfortunately. I’m running out the door at the moment but I should be back in an hour. Maybe I could have you sign up for the league, draft, and hand the team over to him as the comanager after the draft? Dunno. Not a huge deal - he can get shafted with an autodraft team if necesary. I need to go right this minute though so I can’t work it out right now.
Checking the keeper league (where I’m commish and we already drafted) there’s a commish tool called “transfer team.” When I click on it, it allows me to send a league invite to an email address to take over an existing team.
Meaning if you boot the missing manager and invite a temp prior to the draft, after the draft you can switch it back.
If you’re like me, and like to play your defense based on matchups, how do you like Houston’s defense against the Manning-less Colts offense for week 1?
To those that are interested, we’re running SDMB Pick em, survival, and salary cap leagues, and a yardage pool competition where you can use every QB, WR, and RB in the league once, and you get the yardage they achieve that week added to your score.
Just gave a glance to the yahoo meta-league page, my four matchups so far:
107.37 - 108.37 Keeper
110.00 - 118.55 All-Pro
47.38 - 68.76 Auction
99.50 - 104.97 Dynasty
Ouch.
Weird. As of now my games are
103.45 to 105.03
66.14 to 68.98
59.80 to 65.30
108.60 to 108.0
and 162.90 to 164.15
They were even closer at the start of tonight’s game (I was under a half a point difference in 3 leagues), so that’s a lot of strangely close games.
Weekly Who Do I Start question:
Flex option, non PPR, regular scoring:
Mario Manningham or LeGarrette Blount?
Blount was awful last week, getting only 5 carries and watching from the sidelines most of the second half when, for reasons known only to himself, Raheem went to a no huddle and abandoned the running game. This week, he has the Vikings, although no longer have the Williams Wall, did a halfway decent job against Matthews and Tolbert last week.
Manningham has a Monday night game (I generally like having guys go Monday night, just to make it more interesting) against the Rams, who have had a rash of injuries and may have lost their only good CB. Add in the Giants #1, Nicks, may not play or may not be 100%, and Mario may get more targets.
Generally, I always go RB over WR based on touches alone, but with what the Bucs are doing with Blount is beyond me. So I come to you guys for help.
If Foster is still out, I may be forced to start Blount again. I’ve got Manningham and Nicks in one league (autodraft league). Last I looked, Nicks was set to start, and he has surer hands than Manningham. If he isn’t scratched, I’ll go with Nicks.
I’d go with Blount. He was an animal towards the end of last year. They left him out of the game week one and lost. I’m betting they’ll change that for week 2. I feel more confident that Blount would score a TD week 2 than Manningham.
Missing/banged up Nicks could be good or bad for Manningham. The Bucs aren’t going to give Blount just 5 carries again. I’d start Blount even in a league where wideouts got double points.
