You could drop Ricky Williams for Cutler, but he’s not as valuable as Schaub anyway and carrying three quarterbacks when you have a must-start #1 is kind of pointless. Stand pat.
I had some bad dealings with the auto draft as I was hampered getting online in time.
Start QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, RB/WR flex, TE, D/ST, Kicker
Roster below:
Donovan McNabb, Phi QB
Chad Pennington, Mia QB
Brandon Jacobs, NYG RB
Chester Taylor, Min RB
Frank Gore, SF RB
Marshawn Lynch, Buf RB
Brandon Marshall, Den WR
Santana Moss, Was WR
Donnie Avery, StL WR
Keenan Burton, StL WR
Ted Ginn Jr., Mia WR
Brent Celek, Phi TE
Greg Olsen, Chi TE
Ravens D/ST, Bal D/ST
David Akers, Phi K
Joe Nedney, SF K
I have two claims processing overnight: Nedney dropping for Cadillac Williams, and Pennington dropping for Leftwich. My starters for the weekend would be Leftwich, Williams, Jacobs, Taylor, Marshall, Moss and Celek (though I’m not sure on that). Thoughts on those starters? Also, what would you do RE: QBs over the longer run with McNabb out - does anybody think it makes sense to drop one of the WRs to pick up Vick in case he gets rolling? I don’t really like my TE situation, but I think I’ll live. For a second defense, should I go for Seattle/Denver/Cincy/Jags (cream of waiver crop) or go for a trade?
Bad idea. With McNabb out, you need a (temporary) third QB. Leftwich is decent, but iffy in the long term. I’d drop one of your extraneous WRs or Celek.
While I was very impressed with my Bucs’ ability to move the ball on Dallas, I wouldn’t want to start Leftwich against Buffalo. They made Brady look very average for 57 minutes.
OK, question for the gurus…
Donovan McNabb vs Brett Favre?
I drafted Donovan McNabb as my starter, but with his cracked rib, he may not be playing this weekend. If the Eagles declare him the starter, who would be a better starter on my team, McNabb or Brett Faaaaav-ruh?
I’m leaning towards Favre regardless because how good could McNabb play with a damn cracked rib?
I have McNabb benched this week. I encourage you to do the same, although if he does play, it’s worth gambling on him because that game could be a huge shootout.
I hate those game time decisions.
If McNabb starts, he’s the guy. The Saints/Eagles game is going to be a shootout, with a lot of points being on the board, and McNabb should be flinging it around.
Oppositely, I expect the Vikings to run all over the Lions. As with last week, I expect the Vikings to shun the downfield passing game and run the hell out of the ball with AD and Chester. They’ll keep Favre reigned in, and limit his passes.
But, as with all things injury, so much depends on how healthy he feels at game time. But I would take a 80% McNabb against the Saints than 100% Favre against the Lions.
Two for me:
Fred Jackson against the Bucs or Kevin Smith against the Vikings. I like Smith, I really do. But a pathetic 1.3 ypc against the Saints seriously makes me question his fantasy ability. Against the Vikings, I expect him to have it even worse. But I do expect the ton of dump off passes like he got last week. Fred Jackson had a good game last week against the tough Patriots D. And the Bucs didn’t do a great job stopping the Dallas’ running game. So I’m leaning to Fred.
and
Carson Palmer or Matt Schaub. This is in my money league. At the draft, I went with the old “One of the two will emerge” theory, and they both stunk up the place last weekend. I know it’s a shitty choice, but it’s a choice that has to be made. Palmer plays the Packers which would severely limit my ability to cheer from him (but it’s a nice consolation prize if the Bengals score a lot against the Packers through the air). The Packers tend to give up some big plays, but they also get a good number of turnovers and (finally!) get a good bit of pressure on the QB, so Palmer with his shitty O Line maybe pressed for time. Schaub was equally bad last week, and the Titan’s D is pretty good, and their ball control offense keeps the ball out of the Texan’s hands, while not making it a shootout. I’m really torn on that one.
Anyone else having problems in Yahoo? Every time I go to make a roster move, it bumps me to some analyst page. Same goes for my mobile connection.
Smith will catch lots of passes even if he gets shut down in the run game, but you can’t start ANY running back against the Vikings.
Jackson won’t be as productive against the Bucs as his was last week, but I think you can ride him until Lynch comes back.
Re Schaub/Palmer, go with Schaub. I have both in the dynasty league and I wisely sat Schaub in Week 1, but I doubt Slaton will get anything going against the Titans and the Texans will have to throw- plus they always come up big in division games.
My turn for a QB question:
Peyton Manning or Tony Romo? It looks like Peyton is down to just Reggie Wayne, but Romo is playing against the G-Men. What should I do?
Trade Romo. Why would you spend such a valuable pick on a backup?
Peyton is down to “just” Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark, who together are as productive as any WR-TE receiving combo in the league.
I didn’t! I had an appointment, and my wife ran my draft for me.
Last week’s numbers for Romo started instilling doubt in me, though.
Alright, anyone who wants to take a crack at this, analyze away:
League is a 12-man league, ESPN standard (snake draft, 4 points pass TD, 6 points other TD, no PPR). Each week we play one QB, TE, DST and Kicker; two RBs and two WRs, and one spot is RB/WR.
QB: Philip Rivers
RB: Steven Jackson, Ray Rice, Fred Jackson, Cedric Benson, Julius Jones, Donald Brown, Mike Bell
WR: Greg Jennings, Roddy White, Eddie Royal, Steve Smith (NYG), Kenny Britt
TE: Dustin Keller
DST: Packers
K: Lawrence Tynes
So far I’ve got Rice, Jennings and White penned in as starters. Steven Jackson too but I’m starting to wonder if the Rams are so terrible that I might need to shut him down. I played Benson in my flex spot the first week, I think I’ll go with Fred Jackson this week.
Trying to work out a trade where I can swap Rivers for Manning because Manning has the better schedule and it kills me to root for Rivers (Raiders fan). Not sure if any other moves need to be made or can be made.
I still think Romo’s numbers last week were much more a product of the horrible play of the Buccaneers’ secondary and much less of Romo and the wideouts. I think you’ll see him come back to earth this week, and you certainly don’t start Romo over Manning unless Romo has a perfect matchup (which the Giants definitely aren’t).
Oh, good, an easy one. Jennings and White should be starting for you every week unless they or their quarterbacks are hurt.
All your running backs have bad matchups except Fred Jackson. Since the matchups are basically a wash, start Steven Jackson. That’s what you drafted him for.
I will note that I think the 'Skins will trounce Jackson in the running game, but he’s a good receiver and he’ll probably get one or two chances to score, which is more than I can say for Rice.
Great, but which Manning?
Yahoo is mixing up the Zack Millers. I got scared when I saw this news under my guy:
But they’re talking about Jacksonville’s Zack Miller.
I’m starting both Steve Smiths in my ESPN league this week.
I’ve got both Sproles and LT. I hate cutting LT already, but I don’t think he’s going to accomplish anything this weekend. Bench him or no?
Alternatively, run them both and cut Joseph Addai or Steven Jackson. Probably Addai in this scenarion, since Miami’s D seems strong against the run.
Advice?
