Fantasy football general discussion

I am in five fantasy leagues. I have Marion Barber in four of them, including the HHM league and the SDMB Auction Draft league. I only have Felix Jones in one of them (neither of those).

This is not good.

I hear you. I’m seriously regretting not picking up Fred Jackson to tide me over until Lynch can play. I’m not even sure how they can afford to put Jackson on the bench. Looks like another RBBC to me.

Last week was pretty bad for me with McNabb and Welker both out and Jennings doing his disappearing act - had the low points for the week in my money league. Hopefully Welker plays this week so I have some flexibility for my RB2.

I was offered this trade:

D. McFadden and Eddie Royal

for

M. Lynch and S. Smith (Giants)

The emergence of Fred Jax makes me nervous about Lynch’s productivity, and I just picked smith up this week as bench insurance.

ETA: If I wasn’t clear, I’d be getting DMF and Royal.

McFadden/Lynch is a wash, but Steve Smith appears to be far more valuable right now than Royal.

It looks like all the Broncos receivers have been Ortonned.

Big trade pending in my league:

Steve Smith (CAR), Portis, LT
for
Steve Smith (NYG), Gore, Ronnie Brown

He’s trying to sell high on Gore & Brown, but they might just be straight better than Portis & LT. Steve Smith for Steve Smith is a wash

Someone in my league just dropped Greg Olsen and picked up Benjamin Watson. I immediately put in a waiver claim for him (dropping an earlier panic-pick-up, R. Meachem.) I know he hasn’t done much yet, but I expect him to be better. I have D. Clark, but I figure Olsen’ll be good trade bait down the line.

borsch, I assume that’s not a keeper league? The guy giving up Gore and Brown is a doofus, even if Steve Smith (NYG) turns out to be a flash in the pan.

A guy in my league got Larry Fitzgerald and Ronnie Brown for Adrian Peterson. Am I wrong in thinking he pulled off a mugging?

Considering that Fitz and Peterson were both consensus first-round picks and Brown was on average a late third-round pick, no. Definite mugging.

Alrighty Gentlemen. My conundrums this week:

Kevin Smith v. Washington
Clinton Portis v. Lions

By matchup, it’s clearly Portis. If his ankle is OK, I expect him to get a ton of carries. But he has yet to break even 80 ypg and has zero TD’s. Smith had a fine game against the tough Vikings, and (for once) I don’t see the Lions getting blown out right away, so he may get the touches he needs.

Chad OchoCinco v. Steelers
Jerricho Cotchery v. Titans

The Titans secondary looked atrocious last week, and Sanchez has been solid. These two guys are neck and neck in yards, but 85 has a TD while Cotchery doesn’t.

Chad Pennington v. Chargers
Matt Cassell v. Eagles

Pity me.

Thoughts?

Resist the temptation to get cute with it. Washington is much more likely to spend the 2nd half running out the clock, and also more likely to, you know, score touchdowns. There’s no reason the game can’t turn out the other way, but going by expectation it’s Portis in a walk.

Also easy: Cassel. His team is very likely to be airing it out for most of the game, whereas Miami is too run-oriented for Pennington to be a big producer.

I have no idea on your WR question.

Portis, OchoCinco, Pennington.

Airing it out or not, Cassel is worthless, his receivers are worthless, and Philadelphia’s secondary is excellent.

Pennington’s first two games: 176/1, 183/0.
Cassel last week: 241/2, 5/34 rushing.

If it was a question of who would have the higher DVOA or Passer Rating, I’d go with Chad. But since it comes down to yards and touchdowns, it’s Cassel.

Tell that to the negative points they put up last week.

Your Florida bias is showing. I’ll put Bowe up against anyone on the Dolphins roster any day of the week.

I’d go Cotchery. Bengals are inconsistent, and both Holmes and Johnson got huge numbers when going against the Titans.

Florida bias? I hate the Dolphins, I hate Pennington, and I hate Ted Ginn. However, Pennington has a better offensive line, a better running game, better overall receivers (obviously Bowe is better than any Dolphins receiver individually) and a better matchup.

Cassel had one touchdown and two picks, not two touchdowns.

It was against the Saints, and they scored six points in standard formats.

True. But that’s still a poor showing for a supposedly decent defensive team.

He also has an offensive system that not only has a “Run First” mentality, but a “Run First, Run Second, Run Third” mentality. Rushing dominated the landscape by a 3:2 margin last week, and so far, the Dolphins are averaging short pass plays. The potential for Cassel to do better on any given week is much higher than it is for Pennington.
