Fantasy football general discussion

Nope - I win. I lost that game by .27 points. 3 yards. Instead of Julius Jones, I could have started any of the following and gotten the win:

Fred Taylor
Donald Brown
Jamaal Charles

Unless Shiancoe can somehow stop sucking tomorrow night, my team in the all pro league is going to become the best 1-3 team of all time.

Randy Moss, Anquan Boldin, Maurice Jones-Drew, Pierre Thomas, Marion Barber, Philly defense, Knowshon Moreno, Jerome Harrison, LeSean McCoy… 1 win.

Of course those players all haven’t been on my roster from the start, but still. Mostly it’s Trent Edwards. He put up 2 nice games to start the season, I traded for him (after Hasselbeck went down) and then he totally crapped the bed with 5 and 4 point games.
Incidentally, I know some people scoffed at me for drafting Pierre Thomas with the 21st pick. Maybe they’re right and I could’ve had him with my round 3 pick. But I was really really high on him, and now since he’s been back he’s played 1.5 games and put up 42-44 points. STUD!

I have a question about how yahoo handles waivers.

In the Big League, since we have so many people, and talent is spread so thin, we get a lot of waiver claims. We’re using a standard rotating list waiver system, and we’re using the Sunday-Tuesday free agents become waiver system.

One of the problems is - let’s say you’ve got a bottom 5 waiver priority, and there’s a good chance the top 2 or 3 players you want will be picked up by someone else. The way yahoo works (as far as I can tell) is that you must specifically make a waiver claim in the format of “pick up [player on waivers] and drop [specific player on team]”.

So let’s say there’s only one guy on your roster that you’re willing to drop, call him player X, and there are 3 players you’re willing to pick up. You’d be willing to drop player X for any of those 3 players. But it seems that under the yahoo system, you make your claim for your most wanted player while dropping player X, and if you want to make a second claim (in case the other player is gone before it gets to your waiver priority) then you have to pick someone from your roster to drop other than player X. But you don’t want to do that. So in the end, you make a claim to pick up one player and drop X, and that’s it. The player you wanted to pick up gets taken by someone else, so you get nothing, even though there was a second and third player you’d be willing to make a claim for while dropping X.

Do I understand the system correctly? Is there some way to get around this? It seems like a pretty big flaw. It seems like it would be better instead if it asked for a list (with priorities) of players you wanted to pick up, and a list (with priorities) of players you were willing to drop - that way whatever claim you made would always correspondingly drop the player you were most willing to drop to clear roster space.

I thought you could pick any number of players and pick the same guy as the “to drop” in all cases, and it just denies the later claims if one of the earlier ones goes through.

Oh, that would make sense.

Thanks.

Yup, RNATB’s right - you can drop the same player in multiple waiver claims. If you “win” a second claim, it just doesn’t register. In that case, I’d max out your waiver requests using a second player you’d still be willing to drop.

  1. SenorBeef has a claim for Cleveland Defense and drops Marshall Faulk.
  2. SenorBeef has a claim for Seattle Defense and drops Marshall Faulk.
  3. SenorBeef has a claim for Cleveland Defense and drops Tom Brady.
  4. SenorBeef has a claim for Seattle Defense and drops Tom Brady.

I’d hold onto Brady, though.

Another question while I’m at it. You can upload your own custom team image now. I did this after I’d drafted in 2 leagues, before I drafted in 2 others. The leagues where I drafted before the switch are still stuck with the generic yahoo helmet logo even though I selected it to use the custom image. Is the image you choose simply locked in permanently at draft time, or is there some way I can use my custom image with those leagues?

Clear your cache.

That’s not it, it links to different images. I think I may just be stuck. You actually just change the image in your fantasy profile, not per league. There’s not really anything else I can do as far as I can see. Oh well. It’s a waste since my custom image is so awesome.

Edit: Yeah, I changed the image and it didn’t seem to change any leagues. I guess it’s locked in to whatever your image was at draft time.

You should be able to switch it during the season. Go back into your team settings.

I tried to upload a custom image after the draft and it keeps telling me the file type is invalid even though it’s just a JPG.

EDIT: But making it a PNG works.

Ah, it worked. I changed the image in my fantasy profile and selected apply to all of yahoo fantasy sports which didn’t work, but what did work was going into the team settings in that league.

You guys have been helpful. If you can do me one more favor, please go back in time and kneecap Trent Edwards.

I did. Doesn’t seem to have affected his play.

Guess who started Cedric Benson over Steve Slaton in 2 leagues this week. :smack:

Oh well, if Greg Jennings + Aaron Rodgers outplay Percy Harvin by 18 points I’ll go 3-0 for the week. Thanks, San Francisco defense. So far it seems that the collective will of the sdmb is for Harvin to have a really bad night.

My best free agent pickup in years: SF’s Defense, facing the Boller-led Rams. The result? 1 interception, 2 fumble recoveries, 5 sacks, and 3 touchdowns. 39 points. Yowza.
Also, question: is there anyone here who’s in all four of my fantasy leagues (Auction, Big, He Hate Me, and Dynasty)?

I’m in three of the four, VZ (not in Big).

FTR, I would like Harvin to have a big night so I can set a new season-high for scoring in the HHM league. Actually, at ~140 points I can’t be that far off the all-time record, can I?

Hey, does anyone have any kind of a feeling on the Colts backfield? I have both backs, but no feeling on who to start (other than the opposite one I do start). Addai blew up the first game and I started him. Brown took over the second and third games and I started Addai. I don’t start either this week, and both get nice point totals. What. The. Shit.

I have been having the same issue with Parker and Mendenhall in a couple different leagues.

Don’t start either of them, except as a flex. I’m beginning to see that Addai, for whatever reason, is just not a featured back, and sooner or later Brown will be the guy carrying it 20 times a game… but for now I don’t think either is more than a #3 option.

If you’ve got no choice, start Brown, 'cause he scores more.
