Fantasy football general discussion

Well, at least you didn’t drop Greg Olsen to add Fred Davis. Then, to add fuel to the fire, Clinton Portis gets hurt in the first quarter, and is out for the rest of the game.

Needless to say, I need Mendenhall to come up huge in this game, and going up against a Denver defense, it looks rather bleak.

Well, I finally beat RNATB in something! In the auction league I step on his head to elevate myself to an 8-1 record, and he also lost out in the double-strike survival league.

This week should be a good week for my teams… I have Ronnie Brown (vs TB) in 3 leagues and Pierre Thomas (@StL) in 2 leagues.

Aww, crap. I didn’t even notice that until now. Serves me right for not following my usual practice of picking whoever plays KC. I picked against my own team - the Bucs - and karma takes its due.

On the bright side, I’d like to point out that I’m first in scoring in the SDMB dynasty league (despite not mortgaging my future by picking old players), third in scoring in the HHM league and third in the Auction Draft league.

Of course, that may change a bit since my MVP (Matt Schaub) is on a bye, and I’ve got him in all three. Not only that, but I am trading Vince Young to furt for Eli Manning in HHM, and Manning is… also on a bye. Hopefully Josh Freeman won’t hit the rookie wall too soon…

Offer:

Chad Ochocinco & Clinton Portis

for

Ronnie Brown & Bernard Berrian

In this league, I’m in second place, with DeAngelo Williams, Kevin Smith, Clinton Portis, and Larry Johnson at RB and Andre Johnson, Chad85, Sidney Rice, Jerricho Cotchery, and Crabtree at WR. I’m giving up a top 10 WR and a severe underacheiving RB who is my flex guy for a top 10 RB and dogshit (although if Rice gets hurt, Berrian is nice insurance). I’m much more comfortable starting a RB at flex, and I like Brown for the playoffs when he plays the Titans and the Texans.

Is this a fair trade? Am I crazy? Is he likely to take it? Would you?

I doubt you’ll get much for Portis. He sustained a concussion this week and he’ll probably miss at least one game - not that you’d be able to tell, considering his recent production.

You ought to be alright with DeAngelo and Kevin Smith, although I would definitely try shopping one of your wideouts for a flex RB.

How many RB, WR, and flex spots are we talking about?

FWIW, I don’t think Berrian would necessarily be the beneficiary if Rice got hurt anyway. They’ve been running Harvin on a lot of shallow crosses and bubble screens other “possession”-type routes, whereas Berrian just gets sent downfield, and Favre seems to trust Harvin a lot more than Berrian (although they have the same number of catches, more or less).

Fun fact: Bernard Berrian was born in Barcelona.

2 rb, 2 wr, 1 rb/wr/te flex spot.

At it’s heart, it’s a Chad85 for Ronnie Brown trade, with the other two kinda fillers to even it out.

I just traded for Rice (Ahmad Bradshaw and Roy E. Williams) and Johnson and have used Rice as my flex. I’m hoping LJ gets a quick fresh start somewhere else, but I am not counting on it. It’s actually Kevin Smith who concerns me. He’s a fine starter if he gets the ball, but the Lions poor D mean playing from behind and Stafford means not many TD chances.

Yeah I’d make the trade and start Brown, William, Smith, Johnson, and Rice by default. I prefer to start a RB in the flex spot, and while Ronnie Brown has had a mediocre few weeks, he’s got a good schedule.

Rice is the key to the rest of your season. I thought he’d lose his job to McGahee in a matter of minutes, but not only has he been productive, he’s been bad matchup-proof. Seems to have 80 yards rushing, 40 receiving and a score in every game.

I think he’s talking about Sidney Rice, not Ray Rice.

Oops. Well, hopefully Sidney Rice isn’t the key to the rest of your season (although he has been surprisingly good and saved my Auction Draft team).

Does anyone have Tomlinson? I do, and I’m seriously contemplating dropping him. He’s been dead weight for me this whole season. I’m thinking about picking up Mike Wallace or Robert Meachem in his place.

I know they are long shots, but they can’t be any worse than LT’s production so far this season. Wallace’s last couple of games have been respectable, and if Lance Moore is still hurt, Meachem could have another good game.

What are you, nuts? Tomlinson may be turning out shitty yardage numbers, but he’s scoring. After those fourth-and-short debacles I don’t think Norv Turner will be doing anything as dumb as putting Darren Sproles in on short yardage/goalline plays anymore, either.

I guess we must have different definitions of scoring, especially for one of the most highly-touted RBs in the NFL.

Tomlinson has a total of 3 rushing and 0 receiving TDs this year (admittedly, he’s only played in 6 games of San Diego’s 8 games). In one of my leagues (6 pt TD, 1 pt per 15 yards) he has put up 4 more points than Lavernues Coles, and 19 points fewer that Willis McGahee, ferchissakes. Now, LT will get far more carries than McGahee over the rest of the season, and i certainly wouldn’t drop him for a backup Saints WR, but so far he’s been a complete fantasy dud.

Of course, none of this worries me too much, because my QB in that league is Phillip Rivers, and i have Vincent Jackson at WR. The more the Chargers throw the ball, the better, as far as i am concerned.

vandal, i dropped Moore for Meachem in my league today. I’m still not sure whether i’ll play Meachem (i have a few good WRs - Jackson, Miles Austin, and Steve Smith of Carolina), but he can’t be much worse than Moore lately, and Moore is currently having injury problems.

Well, fair enough. I’m not saying that Tomlinson is having a great year, but he’s on pace for 7-8 touchdowns and ~900 total yards over 14 games, which is more than either Meachem or Wallace are likely to achieve.

Moreover, Tomlinson will keep getting carries, while Meachem and Wallace (particularly Wallace) may not keep getting passes thrown their way.

I can’t imagine Tomlinson being worse than the worst WR on your team. Or that second kicker or defense you don’t need.

I debated between dropping LDT or Moreno for Jamal Charles. Both have been huge busts. I dropped Moreno because anyone who goes 4 for 3 on MNF doesn’t deserve a roster spot.

I hear what you guys are saying, and believe me, I’m waiting patiently for his breakout game, but based on what he’s done so far, I just don’t see it.

Here are his stats, so far:

Week 1 at OAK: 55 yards, 1 TD, 9 Fantasy Points
Week 2 vs BAL: DNP
Week 3 vs MIA: DNP
week 4 at PIT: 15 YDS, 0 TD, 1 Fantasy Point
Week 5 Bye Week
Week 6 vs DEN: 70 yards, 0 TD, 10 Fantasy Points
Week 7 at KC: 71 yards, 0 TD, 7 Fantasy Points
Week 8 vs OAK: 56 yards, 2 TD, 17 Fantasy Points
Week 9 at NYG: 22 yards, 0 TD, 2 Fantasy Points

Those are all of his rushing yards, by the way. All of his receiving yards have been less than 10 each week, so it wouldn’t of added to his point total anyway.

As you can see, he’s only scored double digit fantasy points twice, and his only TDs have been against Oakland. Plus, I’m not in a PPR league, so his amount of touches don’t matter.

So far, these are numbers that any decent WR2/WR3 or RB2/RB3 could put up. I mean, Mike Wallace just put up 12 fantasy points last night (against a tough Denver defense, no less), and Meachem put up 15 on Sunday.

With San Diego’s offensive line in disarray, and based on his overall performance so far, I just don’t see how LT can have a breakout game. To me, he’s not worth starting so I can hope he breaks out.

There’s your reason right there - they’re RB2/RB3 numbers. You don’t drop RB2/RB3 players. WR2/WR3 players are a dime a dozen.

Last I looked, the Niners’ O-line was a mess, and Frank Gore is capable of breaking out any given play.
