I’ve been offered Marques Colston for Shiancoe (my backup TE behind Dallas Clark), Sproles (never gets off my bench) and Steve Breaston (my #4 WR behind S. Smith (NYG), Boldin and S. Holmes.)
This will give me a core of Warner, Gore, Colston, Boldin, and D. Clark for the stretch run. My other RBs are Caddy, Lynch, Jamal Charles and LT.
Yeah, I took it. I actually made the initial offer but had included Lynch instead of Sproles. He wanted Sproles. I actually am still holding out hope that Lynch can have a decent 2nd half.
He’s giving up players he’s unlikely to start for a top 5 player at his position who will be an every day starter. And they’re in positions where injuries won’t be that big a deal. He doesn’t lose receiver depth because he’s giving up Breaston but getting Colston. He loses a mid-tier TE who he’d never start ahead of Clark, and if Clark got injured Shiancoe could probably be replaced for free by someone like Zach Miller or Dustin Keller. And Sproles isn’t worth much unless your league counts return yards.
Fantastic trade. Breaston is easily replaced this year, and if Sproles is never off your bench, who cares? Shiancoe and a backup RB for a gigantic upgrade at any position is exactly what good trades are made of.
It could. But Colston will remain a top 5 WR throughout the entire season while Sproles ceiling isn’t ever going to be that high. The deal is a no-brainer considering his team.
Even when Sproles started, he wasn’t that good. He ripped off a few big screens and that was pretty much all he did in the starting role. His YPC as a runner is pretty terrible.
My first priority was a RB, but there’s not a lot of true depth out there because of so many 1st round flops (LT, Forte, even Jacobs.) I’m clinging to a 1 game lead in my division after going 1 - 3 the last 4 weeks. Steve Smith has been declining fast, Boldin has been hurt and hasn’t produced much yet, and I just got Holmes a few weeks ago, so I figured a true WR1 (PPR league, btw) would be my next best option.
Frankly, these days I’d rather platoon a bunch of #3s. There really aren’t any #2 RBs anymore that you can count on. I think the definition of an RB2 these days is “could be a #1 if only his coach would stop giving so many carries to his backup”. That leads to unpredictability, which I hate. How many times have you lamented about the Addai/Brown situation? Same thing. There are so many 1-2 RB situations in the NFL right now that decrease their fantasy value, targeting a first-look WR for flex is becoming a more and more sound strategy. (Especially in a PPR league like Southern Yankee’s.)
I’ve only got Addai or Brown in my least important league, so I haven’t lamented it at all, though I see your point.
I also did not notice where SY said it was a PPR league. That certainly makes a difference.
I have been trading for Jacobs on the cheap everywhere I possibly can, for the record. I just gave up Cedric Benson for him and The Other Steve Smith in my longtime league.
Yeah, but Maroney disappears on occasion and he’s playing the Colts. Crabtree seems to be Smiths favorite target against a Bears D that’s making a habit of getting toasted.
