Fargo S01E03 [Open spoilers]

What I liked best about this episode was that Molly understood without comment why Grimly let Malvo go. I’m not sure how she feels about it though. She’s a little bit gung-ho.

Malvo getting in and out of the Supermarket King’s house so easily – mad ninja skilz!

The “game-changing” fourth episode is next week. Curious to see what happens.

The scene with her odd friend seemed to be a call-back to the movie, the coffee date with the weird Asian guy.

I noticed last night that the parental guidance code for the show was
TV
MA
LV
and I was thinking They just need an O at the end!

It seemed odd to me that considering how far Malvo dragged the guy by his necktie, he didn’t appear to have any marks on his neck.

Also re: breaking into Food King’s house - no footprints in the snow? And he didn’t track any snow into the house?

All of that bothered me too. I hope they don’t take Malvo’s supernatural abilities too far or it’s going to take me right out of the story.

I did like how Molly sort of took the lead in starting a relationship of some sort with Grimly. She has more pickup mojo than you’d expect of her character.

I didn’t pay attention to that. Did he not track snow into the house or did the King not notice it.
I only ask because there was a doggy door that the dog was clearly allowed to go in and out of so water/snow would have gone unnoticed. Also, people in snowy areas that have dogs get pretty used to wearing slippers in winter because dogs track plenty of snow into the house.

Also, the dog would leave so many foot prints all over the backyard if hadn’t snowed for more then a few days, it’d be hard to find people foot prints out there. Unless it’s the kind of dog that just runs in tracks as some do.

Of course, if there was no water at all and/or no prints at all in the backyard. That seems like it was overlooked.

Something else. Malvo was making plenty of noise, but on top of all that noise, his shoes should have been squeaking on the floor. Even if it was tile they would have made some noise (not as much as linoleum). I also didn’t like that he knew right where to find the pills. If I kept my pills in my coat pocket at work, I’d probably take them out when I got home.

I didn’t like that either. It’s possible that in an earlier episode, Malvo saw where the Supermarket King kept his pills and took note.

Not sure what was the point of the pills. Shoot my dog and make red stuff come out of the shower and I’ll be unsettled enough – don’t need pills.

BTW, how did Malvo cause blood to pour from the shower head? He is doing a nice job of fucking with him, though.

I couldn’t figure out a good way to do that. Some neighborhoods have open watertanks on the roof, but I doubt his does. It’s possible he disconnected the hot water tank, drained some water out, added the blood, re-plumbed it and burped the air out because it didn’t cough or spurt…but that would be tough. Besides, the blood would have been up there at the same time as the hot water so Oliver would have seen it before he got in. I think we’re just supposed to work under the assumption that he ‘made it happen’ and ‘not ask questions’. Maybe ask the Ghostbusters. It’s been a very, very, very long time since I’ve seen it, but parts of this remind me of American Psycho.

The drug switch is so that the supermarket king is hyped up and not thinking straight. Any straight thinking person would know damn well that the baseball thug doesn’t have the capability or imagination to do the shower bit and is being framed.

Oopps! I think you folks are getting into some episode 3 stuff here. I was accidentally getting spoiled while scratching my head trying to remember things I haven’t seen yet.

Yes. Everything starting with post 55 is about the third episode.

Loving the show but you just have to suspend all disbelief …

…doggy door like that during a Minnesotta winter

…how the blood got there and why The King didn’t notice it at first

… etc…etc

Please refrain from posting further Episode 3 comments in this Episode 2 thread!

I’m wondering if there’s enough interest in the show to justify a new thread for each episode. 66 posts after 3 episodes – Game of Thrones hits that in the first ten minutes.

I’ll let you guys work that out. For now, I’ve moved these posts into a new thread for episode three.

There is also a “Fargo” Episode 1 thread here.

If this thread is to be for the rest of the season the title should be changed to reflect that.

Agreed, minus the “loving” part. I find it to be mildly entertaining, but Fargo the movie this is not. And it’s partly because none of is believable; lots of 1-dimensional characters (starting off especially), plenty of things that should be unlikely or impossible in real-life, and even the way the characters behave doesn’t ring true to me at all for some of it.

Huh, so my friend pointed out something I missed–and hasn’t been mentioned yet so far as I can tell.

In Oliver Platt’s office, you can see a red Ice Scraper framed on his wall–seemingly the same one used in the Fargo film to mark the location of the suitcase full of money. Meaning that’s where he got the money from to start his business.

That’s cool! I wondered about the ice scraper.

Wow. That makes perfect sense, even if it does provide a major spoiler and sorta ruin the story.

i wondered about it as well. of course being me, i thought it was an emergency ice scrapper. “break glass in case of emergency!”
