Is Moya the name of the ship and is the ship alive?
Yes, Moya is the name of their ship (a Leviathan), and yes, she is alive. And Pilot is bonded to her for life. Whichever of their lives turns out to be shorter. (Moya would probably survive Pilot’s death, but he wouldn’t survive hers, even if the rest of the crew did.)
Captain Crais’s ship, Talyn, is her son. Although Talyn is something of a mutant - a rather heavily armed breed of Leviathan. I’m not sure if how Talyn came about is ever explained.
The peace keepers were experimenting with Moya, with the intention of producing an armed leviathan. The lead scientist at the time had second thoughts, and put a shield in place to rpevent Moya conceiving. This shield was later destroyed by Dargo or Cryten (can’t remember which) at which point Moya became preganant with the first armed leviathan
Thanks, I just started watchin this last night and may have more questions later.
While we’re asking questions here, could someone clarify something for me:
‘Peacekeepers’ are obviously some kind of military force of the race ‘Sebatians’ (sp?) which coincidently look just like caucasian hu-mons (haven’t seen any asian or black Peacekeepers). All Peacekeepers are Sebatians but are all Sebatians Peacekepers? I recall an episode around Scorpios origins where his mom didn’t seem to fit the usual hard-ass leather wearing sterotype.
Not all Sebaceans are Peacekeepers. Aeryn mentions this in the episode where Chrichton, D’argo, and Zaahn where trapped on the planet with the addictive magic tubers. (IIRC, despite being red, the natives are a Sebacean sub-race.)
