At one point Moya, the Leviathan, was pregnant. She had a child Talon, which child was apparently a hybrid between Leviathan and a gunship of some sort.
Now, Moya was referred to as “she” and Talon as “he”. So do Leviathans actually have two genders? If so, do they look noticably different? And if there are two genders, how is mating accomplished? Is there more than one species of living ship, since Talon was a hybrid?
Was Moya impregnated artificially? Based on what I picked up it wasn’t what you would call a planned pregnancy.
Finally, I missed a number of episodes of Farscape, and it seems Talon is dead. How did Talon die?
I would assume that the Leviathans pretty much look alike. I know at one point it was revealed that Aeryn Sun was on Moya when the original pilot died. She admitted to that and said that she’d been on many Leviathans and didn’t know it was the same one.
As far as Moya being pregant, I do believe it was through some type of artificial insemination. IIRC, Crais and the peacekeepers were working on a project to create a hybrid Leviathan. None of the Levithans lived through the experiments and only Moya successfully gave birth to one of the hybrids. This was after D’Argo accidentally removed the “protection” that Aeryn’s boyfriend secretly put in place.
I haven’t seen the episode where Talon dies, but from what I understand, Crais and Talon sacrifice themselves for the others.

Crais has Talyn do a starburst inside of Scorpius’ command carrier. Starbursting inside the command carrier has dire consequences for the carrier and Talyn. What led to this was Talyn’s inability to differentiate friend or foe. Talyn was destroying everything he came across, and Crais was trying to use Scorpius’ resources to cure Talyn, while Scorpius was using Talyn to lure Moya (and Chricton) so that he could get the wormhole information out of Chricton’s head.

to my knowledge, the only male Leviathan (other than Talyn) that has been seen on the show was Elack, the dying leviathan from the beginning of S4, there didn’t seem to be too many external differences between him and Moya…
maybe they’re like the Scarrans, and their mivonks aren’t external…
I always found the Scarrans to be sexually dimorphic, although it’s confusing. The Scarrans who are “in charge” seem more humanoid, with the males being somewhat larger, and uglier.
The foot soldier grunts though, had those elongated heads. Maybe the sex differences don’t become apparent until you’ve achieved a certain amount of social stature, then additional development kicks in.
