FCD arrived safely at his parents’ place slightly earl9than I expected, but then he does have a need for speed… He’s going to try to persuade them to come back with him till it’s time for their second doses. I will be amazed if they agree, but I need to organize the guest room just in case.
The household is in bedtime mode and I think I may play a few games on the tablet, then sleep. So, until the morning…
Sherwin is a terrific name. I vote for that. My suggestions were not as good: Van Go (a play on Van Gogh, with “Go” meaning “Charge!”) Bill Hogarth (kind of a reversal: charge, painter), Too Loose (Lautrec). I like “Sherwin” best.
Mooom, thanks for explaining the nicknaming thing to me.
My take on the Midget situation is that “midget” is generally considered a derogatory term now, which, along with Emily’s dislike of the name, should be enough to warrant a change. However, maybe we should consult Emily about this.
I walked 6.6 miles today, according to The Goog Gal. I wistfully recall hiking 6 miles up a mountain and 6 miles back down, so today’s jaunt seems a little wimpy. I did, however, get to see a lot of water. There’s something soothing about large bodies of water. Why is that?
OK, shoe, how DO you tell a male from a female male snake?
Oh, it’s nothing so salacious. In ball pythons, females get a lot bigger than males as adults. For a long time, I did not know Pretzel’s gender, hence the androgynous name. But now, at the size she’s grown to, she simply can’t be male.
That’s okay. Anytime someone has an irrational reaction to a harmless animal (like freaking out over a fleeing mouse, for ex.) I have taught myself to mentally swap out the critter with a large cockroach.
That puts me directly into the mindframe of the person with the phobia, and I become much more sympathetic.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 56 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 61 and rain for the day. Rain is headed this way accordin’ to the radar. No worries as we plan to go nowhere today. I’ll be happy to be inside and dry. Today, OYKW is goin’ to make pizza usin’ his kit. The “pizza kit” consists of a can of sauce and a bag of dry ingredients which shall turn into dough. Fortunately we have pepperoni and mozzarella on hand. He says he’s just doin’ a basic pepperoni pizza. It will either be good, OK, or og awful. It’s an adventure! N.O.L. may or may not be lethal.
gotti glad you were able to get the surgery scheduled what appears to be relatively fast. Good luck!
MOOOOOOM at least the 'rents admitted they needed help from FCD this time. It’s a step.
I think we had agreed that EmilyG would henceforth be called MG, but I could be and often am wrong.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
I remember that Emily was called MG but it was still just a shortened version of Midget, wasn’t it?
FCM, I am glad your in-laws decided they needed some help. It’s too bad they don’t live a little closer, so the drive isn’t so long for you and your husband.
I think that at one time, someone mentioned coming up with a nickname for me, but really Taters is nicknamish, isn’t it? If anything, I was often referenced to as “N.O.T (salad, etc.)” occasionally.
The fence guys got a lot of work done yesterday. It was a crew of two. They demolished everything but the short section of fence and gate on one side of my house AND installed and set new fence posts. They were fast, efficient, and neat. The fence section with the gate was a new request from me, and they didn’t demolish it because I hadn’t received the bid. I received the bid last night, and I think the gate’s cost was slightly high, but it needs doing, and at this point, I want the project done.
I am very glad it’s Friday. I have no plans for the weekend other than getting my miles in and doing laundry. My son may come up to spend a day with us, but it’s not set in stone yet.
Donating the kennel to a pet rescue sounds right up my alley and I am going to talk to my husband about it. That was a really great suggestion!
Being the one who came up with her nickname, the thought process was EmilyG-MG-Midget. It was not meant to be derogatory - rather, we used to have one similar to the one in the link, so that’s what came to mind for me. Had she said something right off, we’d have figured out another. I hate to think that she was unhappy with that nick for so long…
As for Taters, I think you’re right - it almost seems redundant to rename you. I suppose some usernames just don’t seem to need nicking!
Up and about after a pretty awful night. I absolutely could not fall asleep! Tablet games didn’t help, watching TV didn’t help, lying in the dark thinking sleepy thoughts didn’t help… well, eventually, some time after 1AM I finally lost consciousness, but I woke before 6, which sucketh mightily. At least I don’t have anywhere to go today. I’ll tread the mill, push around the vacuum, and try to move the area rug from the dining room to the family room (it’s a bit of a trip hazard where it is.) I’m also going to finish picking the chicken carcass - I’m thinking I’ll freeze some of the meat for a future chickie-n-dumplins supper, and the rest will become salad.
It’s raining right now, but it’s supposed to be nicer this afternoon - we shall see. I don’t know that it matters - I can’t think of any reason to leave the house today. With luck, I’ll finish the latest lap robe and maybe have enough yarn to make another. And if FCD manages to persuade his folks to come back with him for a visit, there’s much to be done with the guest room, which has become a dumping ground of late. Not junk, just stuff that needed to be put somewhere, so that’s where it got put till I could figure out where to put it… yanno?
Looks like a good few inches of the fluffy stuff dumped down overnight. Need to allow a coupla minutes to clear that off, and several more for the drive (no speeding today, that’s for sure!) so breakfast is already being assimilated.
We’re officially out of kitty litter and down to the last roll of T.P. so guess who’s stopping at Deh Gettin’ Sto’ on her way home from work tonight?
I have tread the mill and tended to the dishes that I ignored last night.
FCD called - apparently his parents’ trek from Ocala to the Orlando airport - a 90 minute drive - went via (almost) Tampa and they spent over 7 hours in the car. So that’s why they called him. That’s terrifying. Dunno if it’ll help change their minds, tho.
Well, the reorg talk turned out to be not terribly important…yet. I’ve got another meeting with my boss today. I work for one of those mega-corps where you’re never quite sure when the crap is going to hit the fan. Also, we were recently purchased by another large company, so I’d rather not be in the crap’s pathway. Maybe I need a raincoat just in case I get splattered. There’s a nice visual.
My son is sitting behind me all sulky and pissed at me and a teacher because his PE teacher deducted points from an assignment. I’m siding with his teacher so am clearly in the wrong. He’s virtual so his PE teacher requires that they prove they do assigned workouts. If it’s a run, he can use an app on his phone and just send a screenshot of mileage and time. This was yoga. You can’t submit two 30-second timelapse videos of you doing parts of the workout if the workout is 20 minutes and expect the teacher to believe you did the whole thing. He asked if I would email her confirming that he did it (I was there), but I refused and said he needed to figure it out. Obviously I’m a jerk and want him to fail.
When I was a kid, that was the only way we ever had pizza. Didn’t know they still made them.
Yoga for PE sounds totally weird, especially for a boys’ PE class. I doubt I would have liked it any more than I did any of the ball games (foot-, basket-, &c) that we had to play.
43 (wind chill 35) and raining; predicted high 42, low 25. We only got about three inches of snow out of the predicted 8-14 the other day before it turned to rain, but there’s a 40% chance of more on Sunday. So far it looks like this winter is going to be as wimpy as the last two were.
My mother used to make those when I was little. I still look at them wistfully in the store sometimes. Let us know how it turns out. I suspect little Maus’ memory is faulty, but I remember it being the perfect accompaniment for The Muppet Show.
Morning all. Stayed in bed until nearly 9am because I could, so slowly moving into the day. Rain has gone (until tomorrow) and going to 50F today, so not bad. Soccer tomorrow so need to be ready for that.
In regards to MMP names, EmilyG writes and sells music (noted on her Facebook) and plays clarinet IIRC, so I suggest Maestro (ETA: the female version is Maestra) for her Mumper name (or as an alternate, Mozart). As for Seanette, I really don’t know, need to think about it some more–hope others are. And I agree, Taters is just about perfect as it is. And another vote for Sherwin for Paintcharge, I tried to work the charge part in there for something short, but nothing has come to me.
FCM, getting lost like that has to be scary as hell, it might be the impetus to finally convince them to move. We shall see.
And there are many who wrote, but I need to be about stuff and will respond at another time. All y’all take care now.
swampy - At least try to jazz up the pizza kit with perhaps herbs and seasonings, plus fresh 'shrooms, of course! Pizza must have fresh 'shrooms!
I’m about to run to the dollar store. I found a bread machine recipe that I want to try, but I need a couple of ingredients. If they don’t have 'em, I’ll just continue up the road to Food Lion. Then once the bread machine gets started, I’ll resume the recline position - I’m very nearly done with the latest lap blanket. Go me!!
Holy toledo! I hope they do come back with FCD, but, like you, I’m not holding my breath.
Talky this seems reasonable to me actually. May I ask why you disagree? Just curious.
Well, our forecast has gone from all rain, to no rain. Therefore, there was rain on the radar last time I checked. I blame the Weather.com app for this. The NWS forecasts for my area are fine when I check. It’s just harder to get to those.
For EmilyG, I like Maestra. I wonder if something like Woodwind or “Chanteuse” would work?
For Paintcharge, I really like “Van Go”.
For Seanette, “Paloma” in honor of her bird(s)?
Last night the kids opted out of dinner, so hubby and I had leftovers and/or cereal. Tonight I really need to cook some of the food we’ve acquired. I’ve got some steaks and some pork chops. Whatever doesn’t get cooked will get frozen.
