Fartin' and burpin' in the MMP! Welcome to the Shortest Month in the MMP!

FWIW, Boo

Crafty might work for EmilyG. She is quite an artistic crafts person from what is posted on FB. Or Clever Crafty? Or Artsy? Music is an art after all.

Artiste

Mateless female Komodo dragons lay eggs which hatch (always into males, IIRC), but they’re a big leggier than sneks.

Walkies -or squelchies- happened today, as it was all bright and nice, but it’s so soggy out there. Forecast says rain tomorrow, then white stuff for a few days; I doubt we’ll get much, and I don’t need to leave the house anyway really, so I’m fine with that.

Having a :unamused: moment- as I have implied, this house is a wee bit chaotic, and I rarely see some of the housemates, and I’ve still not met one (with any luck, he’s going to get thrown out shortly, by the sound of it). I bumped into a different one today, who’s previously seemed really nice, only for him to go off on a rant that sounded like a plausible-deniability racist rant, followed up by happily telling me that he’s faked himself a legal exemption for wearing masks in shops, because, and I quote ‘I work outside anyway’.

Here’s my thinking, and I’d definitely be open to other opinions on this. The way the instructions he was given read, the expectation of the teacher is that he provide a time lapse video of the workout or, if trackable by some device, a screenshot of said tracking to prove that he completed the workout.

Since the workout was 20 minutes long and the time lapse videos he supplied comprise a total of maybe one minute of the workout in total and the intent is to demonstrate that he did the whole thing, my thinking is that as a high schooler he probably ought to know that proof of a single minute of a twenty minute workout won’t do.

By way of full disclosure, at the time he took the videos, I asked him, “Shouldn’t you just do a full time lapse of the whole thing? Wouldn’t it be easier and more likely to prove you did it?” I encouraged him to upload a full video but he refused. It’s possible I’m being too harsh, but my biggest concern is that he learn to read directions in full, understand the intent and, if he misunderstood, resolve it with the teacher directly. I don’t mind intervening if the teacher is being unreasonable, and I’m happy to get involved if she won’t talk through it with him, but I figured it was a lower-stakes way of learning that skill, which will be important in college (PE is weighted lower than standard academic classes in our district).

Another thing I should’ve added - this is the second time this has happened. The first time, the teacher wasn’t clear, so she clarified and gave him the points. This time I think he needs to work it out himself. She still gave him partial credit.

This makes sense to me. Thank you for elaborating.

Honestly, I was second-guessing it myself. It’s hard to know when to get involved and when not to. Sometimes I feel bad for the kid. He’s our firstborn, so by the time his sister goes through the same thing, we’ve got experience managing the situation. He gets the dubious benefit of my overthinking absolutely everything.

Happy Firday! When I was working, Firdays meant rejoicing because I could catch up on sleep over the weekend. Now they mean “Take your weekly Vitamin D pill!” Whoopee. In a few more Fridays, I’ll be out of the Rx kind and can do the Empty Bottle Dance.

Re: nicknames, I wish I could remember who posted that EmilyG didn’t like her nickname. Someone asked what happened to her, and someone else responded that she was on the Book of Faces and something about EmilyG not liking her nickname. Maybe whoever that was could contact EmilyG and ask? Or maybe I misunderstood somehow? (If misunderstanding were an Olympic event, I’d medal in it. Of course, I wouldn’t make it to the podium because I’d misunderstand the directions.)

wordy, that is some stand-up parenting there. [applauds and cheers] You did the right thing, which was not the easier choice, and your sulky son will realize that at some point and use it as an example with his own kids, should he decide to have any.

shoe, that is very interesting. Should I meet a ball python, I shall refrain from using gendered pronouns unless I have another ball python for comparison. I have no fear of snakes (though I’m not going to cuddle a rattler.), thanks to a wonderful zoologist at the Brookfield Zoo’s children’s zoo. I’m sure I’d like Pretzel–such a great name!–a lot.

Mooooom, I hope the 7-hour Trip from Hell convinces FCD’s parents to give up driving. You’re in a tough spot, alrighty.

I’ve never had a Chef Boyardee pizza. My mom made wonderful pizza and focaccia and looked appalled whenever the Chef Boyardee commercial came on. I remember scoffing–no snob like a little kid–because the only cheese in the kit was parmesan. It never occurred to me back then that the CB kit was the closest some families could come to homemade pizza.

FCD called a bit ago - it was a good thing he’d taken them. Turns out today was just second dose for health care workers. So why in the unholy F**K were my inlaws able to get an appointment?? :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: They have to go back tomorrow morning and they should finally get it.

I’ve got a loaf of oatmeal pecan bread in the oven because it sounded good and why not? I did the dough then put it in a loaf pan - I should have bread in half an hour or so. I finished the 4th lap robe and started the 5th.

Tomorrow, I’ll vacuum and dust, but the rest of today is chillage.

Oh yeah, and FLORIDA SUCKS!!! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

He says his name is Jack, and you’re on his friends list, although the lady in the pic with him doesn’t look like you. ???

And pineapple!! :running_man:

And Florida doth verily sucketh! (I grew up there, and never wanted to go back. Now that my parents and brothers are dead, i don’t have to.)

I was a yo-yo last night. (up and down, up and down) and didn’t fall out of bed until 10:30.

Time for me to get something done.

Howdy from rainy south Jawja Y’all! Been a day of chillin’ and experimental pizza makin’. We jazzed the pizza kit up with Eyetalian herbs, pepperoni, 'shrooms, green bell peppers, Canadian bacon (What? It was there, so why not!), mozzarella and parmesan cheese. It turned out to be not too shabby. We may try it again sometime. Maybe we’ll take Wizard’s suggestion and watch the Muppets even. Can one still find the Muppets on teevee?

wordy FWIW I think you did the right thing with your son. He does need to learn to follow directions. Hopefully this is a lesson learned.

MOOOOOOM dang! At least they can get the vaccine tomorrow. Here’s hopin’ they will agree to come back with FCD until the next dose is due.

Pizza in a kit? What will they think of next? I’ve got too much actual yeast and too many kinds of flour to dabble in such things. Last year, I was able to get into a restaurant supply and came out with regular and sweet yeast, plus 50 pounds each AP and bread flour.

Speaking of bread flour - I’m still getting used to my bread machine that was a Christmas gift to myself. The recipes that came with it are fairly bland and use annoying ingredients like powdered milk. Got a loaf thumping around right now - trying a bit more salt and extra virgin olive instead of veg oil to see if it’s interesting.

Howdy, fellow MMPers! I’ve been crazy busy with work and life in general. I’ve read most of your fine ramblings, but have retained little, if any. I must say that this is the best title ever for an MMP! Yinz are one classy bunch – and this comes from one who used to burp the alphabet with my younger brother and, in one of my prouder moments, had a burping contest WITH A NUN years ago. Yes, I have numerous nuns in the family but that one wasn’t even a relative!

The Event Committee for the Cook Forest French & Indian War event had a meeting via Zoom and made the painful decision to cancel the event again this year. There was just no way to have it with all of the restrictions. The participants alone would exceed the maximum number permitted, leaving no room for the public, and we have no effective way to control the number of public attendees anyway.

Two friends are coming over tomorrow morning to sit in on a Zoom meeting for our living history group’s annual meeting (neither of them can figure out how to work Zoom so it’s easier for them to drive over here and look over my shoulder). It shouldn’t take too long because there probably won’t be any events this year so there’s not much to discuss. Afterwards, I’m planning to take them to my local tiny diner because they’ve never been there.

On a sadder note, exactly 52 weeks ago, on Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, Ruble went into the hospital. The shit hit the fan just before 3:00 a.m. that day, and I woke up this morning at exactly the same time I did then, and it took me a moment to realize that all was quiet (too quiet) and I didn’t have to call 911. On the 24th, he’ll be gone a full year. Gentleman Caller asked if he could take me to dinner someplace nice that night because he doesn’t want me to be alone and, as he pointed out, he was there himself not so long ago.

Well, I’ve got to go and finish getting some things in order for tomorrow. I just wanted to check in and let you know that I haven’t forgotten about yinz.

Y’all will be glad to know the Great Human And Kitty TP Shortage has been rectified.

While I was getting the kitty litter, I got toys: a pair of mice made of compressed catnip, complete with feathery tails. The things they come up with!

Monkey thoroughly approved.

I also got some store-made egg salad and some rolls, so I can have egg sandwiches tonight, and tomorrow.

Alright, chillage must needs ensue. These zombies ain’t killin’ themselves, yanno!

Sure. It happens.

That’s amazing. (Was a winner declared?)

… and also, I’m very sorry about your Ruble. :disappointed:

swampy, that pizza kit reminds me of the ones that my mom used to buy when I was a kid. With meat, it was a good Saturday lunch. Without meat, it was Friday night supper.

gotti, when I worked for a restaurant supply place, all employees were considered a Class C customer (meaning 5% over cost for any order that wasn’t client branded). My mom was baking up a storm back then, so whenever I went up, I’d take 50# of bread flour, 25# of whole wheat flour and 3# of yeast. If she needed it, I would take rye flour up to here as well. Back then, that was under $20 for everything.

Hugs to you OW. While not as much as you, I miss ruble too.

Irked until lunch, bought groceries, played in the studio, took a nap, took Nelson to the dog park and swung through Shake ‘N’ Steak for a sandwich and some chili for supper.

The new shoes made a world of difference in my day. I had gotten used to having pain with every step and it’s soooooooo nice not to.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Evening all. Finally finished all my puzzles for the day, with a long hot bath and nappage included in the deal. Will be busy with indoor soccer from 10-5 tomorrow, so a sleep-in day on Sunday is predicted.

OW, we miss him too. Take care.

Sunny, I think Artiste for EmilyG is brilliant…I’m changing my vote. And VanGo is great. And if Nettie approves, Paloma would be nice.

<damn, going to have to make a listing to remember once all of this is done.>

FCM, sounds like Florida is about as organized as Ali-bama is…hope they get the shot tomorrow as planned.

talky, for what it’s worth from a life-long bachelor, I think you did the right thing. If kid is in High School, he need to know the consequences.

Have read all but retained just a bit, so hugs, tears and laughter in whatever dosages you need.

All y’all take care now.

OW I miss Ruble too.

I was trapped in my apartment for most of the afternoon because they were power washing the entrance and stairways (all outdoors). Why it took so long, I don’t know. I thought they’d surely wash the concrete right off, but it’s still there. My welcome mat ended up halfway up the stairs. It’s drenched, so I hung it on my balcony to dry, though the humidity may mean it gets mildewed before that happens.

When I was married, I made homemade pizza every two weeks. I could get pizza in the oven in about 20 minutes. I can’t imagine the kit kind would be much faster…unless the dough was pre-made?. The recipe I use calls for no rising, just a brief rest, during which time I prep the toppings. I use a little rolling pin like this one to quickly get the dough into the prepared (with olive oil and a spattering of corn meal) rectangular pan. Pizza delivery would have been easier, but we lived too far out in the country for delivery.

Oh, and a question: wasn’t there another pizza kit called Appian Way?Or was that the name of the Chef Boyardee kind?

Finally, does anybody besides me remember that Buitoni had toaster pizzas? I remember the commercials for them. They looked like English muffins, so I guess the crust was on the outside and the sauce, etc. was on the inside? This was late Sixties/early Seventies, so way before Hot Pockets.

OW, I was wondering where you were. I remember how shocked I was with the news he was in the hospital because he’d posted just the evening before. We sure do miss him around here. Kudos to Gentleman Caller for his thoughtfulness.

Oh, wow. That’s my father-in-law. Ignore him. He doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing. I’m so, SO sorry he’s bothering you!
