Fashion Police (tv show):Have they finally gone too far?

Eh, well if it’s all manufactured and everyone is in on it, that’s a different story.

They are fake and at least one person has a problem with that.

It was my thought too – for Rastafarian people where dreadlocks have a cultural significance, clipping on fake ones seems not quite right. But fake dreads as just a natural hairstyle (presumably it was someone’s real hair at some point) is no different from braiding fake/purchased hair into long braids.

Exactly. As a model, fashion icon or whatever, it’s all part of the game to wear “fake” hair. And while I find the pairing of a (fake) earthy hairstyle with an extremely formal gown to be an odd choice, I just chalk it up to “edgy model is being edgy”. I guarantee the FP ladies would never make such a comment about Whoopi, or Lisa Bonet (if she still wears them; I don’t know) or whoever, because that is their style by which they come naturally.

So Zandaya, Giuliana and Kelly are a twit, a wimp and a sanctimonious hypocrite, respectively.

Sorry, not directed at you at all. Was speaking more of the media outlets and people who rely on this sort of stuff for clicks (or eyeballs).

Please come again when you find a sense of humor.

You know you are getting all worked up over something on the Fashion Police gossip TV show, and not the real world… right?

You know you’re thread shitting, right?

And again, I’m not getting “all worked up”. Something on a tv show happened so I just thought I’d bring it up in this, our forum for discussing tv shows. Sure, the show is superficial fluff, but it *is *filmed, aired and watched in the “real world”.

There’s also the fact that Zendaya is a squeaky-clean Disney princess without the whiff (heh) of scandal about her. She has been on FP but was restrained in what she would say about others.

I’m surprised this is getting so much attention, and I hope Osbourne’s reaction was exaggerated. I thought Rancic’s apology was fine. She was sincere, she took responsibility and she didn’t try to shift the blame to anyone who was “offended.”

No one would have blinked an eye if Joan Rivers had said it.

I think I love you!

  • watched it for Joan and think Osborne is out of place critiquing fashions–especially with that god-awful hair and bad prison tats.

This show died when Joan died and should be put out of its misery.

Fashion Police is a guilty pleasure for me. Ever since they came back with Kathy Griffin and Brad Goreski, it seems like they have been trying to figure out the tone of the show without Joan. It’s clear that they don’t want Kathy to be a total Joan replacement, but they are trying to keep the edginess that Joan brought.

On the Oscars show, they seemed to all be getting pretty punchy with increasingly snarky comments. The comment about Zendaya was in the second half of the show and I think Guiliana just got caught up in the moment and didn’t think about what she was saying. She was just looking for a funny comment to go along with her negative opinion of the overall look. And I say this as someone who is not a fan of Guiliana. I don’t understand how she became the darling of E!.

I think Zendaya’s response was thoughtful and well-presented. I’d be happy for her to be a role model for my child. Guiliana’s apology was also fine. Kelly’s response, on the other hand, was totally out of proportion. After all of the things Joan said over the years, you’re going to quit over a comment about smelly dreds? Joan regularly commented about smelly vaginas!

And she wouldn’t have apologized! “Get over it, it’s a joke!”

The most significant thing I immediately noticed is the line in her apology where she actually says, "It’s not the intent that matters, it’s the results…" I suppose this is inevitable in the vapid world of celebrity, but it just struck me as being the absolute prime directive in terms of political correctness. IOW actual facts, definitions, words etc. can mean whatever anyone else wants to interpret them to mean at their leisure and for their own purposes and advantage. Which is complete bullshit. Intent is the difference between first degree murder and manslaughter.

This is why I describe political correctness as the new fascism…

I see that Kelly Osborne has now quit the show, and I think thats sort of hypocritical of her.

I think the show has run its course.

Yeah, I think Kelly took this opportunity to jump off a sinking ship.

I should also add that it’s hypocritical because she was overly criticized only because she was being perceived as making fun of black culture, which gets special treatment. As if the idea that dreadlocks aren’t associated with blacks and that dreadlocked blacks aren’t associated with marijuana isn’t true. Heavans-to-Betsy! Don’t even joke about such a terrible thing you Nazi!
