Fashion question: Short-sleeved crewneck shirt with a blazer?

Okay, I have another fashion question for y’all. (Yes, I’m sartorially clueless. So sue me.)

I have a nifty new black blazer that I’m rather fond of. One of my female friends have suggested that this would look good with one of my black short-sleeved crewneck shirts. Another friend has said that this would look kinda sporty.

The thing is, I’ve always read that blazers should only be work with long-sleeved shirt. Now, I’m not really fashion-conscious; however, I don’t want to look like a total doofus, either. What do the fashion mavens here have to say?

It depends on you. You don’t want to look all Miami Vice with it, and you don’t want to look all Furio-from-the-Sopranos, either. Somebody with the right style can very well pull off a crew-neck-under-jacket look, but not everybody can. It helps to be young and handsome. It also helps if all elements are very expensive.

Just for my own clarification – is a “short-sleeve crewneck shirt” the same thing as a T-shirt? I’ve been known to, but I’m a girl.

It’s a specific kind of t-shirt. You can have V-neck t-shirts, for example.

Oh, and just to further clarify… Most t-shirts are indeed crewnecks.
