The tostada is no longer at Taco Bell. First they took the Taco Salad away, now the tostada. Will the Taco be next? weeps
I really miss the meximelt at taco bell. They were way overpriced for what was in each one, but Jesus Christ they were good and I thought they were the most underrated menu item.
I think you can order a cheesy roll-up and add ground beef and … Something? To basically get a meximelt, but I haven’t been in awhile.
On that note the upcoming removal of the Taco Bell Mexican Pizza just bugs me on a weird meta level where I feel I shouldn’t give them business if they’re getting rid of such a staple menu item.
I dont care for "cheese: sauce. It has to be real melted cheese for me.
Going back in the mists of time (sorry, OP) KFC had ribs and their original gravy.
Taco Bell used to have a version of it’s Cheesy roll up with chile sauce. Meximelt?
Bad news…
I’ve speculated that Taco Bell is removing items in anticipation of rolling out a meat substitute menu soon.
But, they have been paring down the menu way before anyone ever heard of Covid. The menu circa 2016 was massive
I missed the taco bell tostada they got rid of oh probably decades ago.
A while back they put a “spicy tostada” on their cheap menu. I didn’t like it as much, but was happy to have it back. I don’t know if its the shape or the fact that they put refried beans on it (differentiating it from a taco), but there’s something I like about tostadas.
They just got rid of that, and I am NOT happy.
The only thing keeping me at taco bell right now is they have a $5 nacho box, which I adore. I also love bean burritos since I was a small child, so that would be hard to give up permanently.
Though I am not the biggest fan, I remember when the 7 layer burrito came out in the early 90’s and I am SHOCKED they got rid of that.
I really don’t understand why they get rid of menu items when they still have all the ingredients to make it. Stupid.
I know all the efficiency studies and drive through speed up tests, but I also don’t get the relentless menu slashing, especially of items that have been there forever. And, this has been going on way before Covid.
My guess is that they’re investing some serious coin into meat alternatives that will be higher profit than the other items. I’d forgotten about the tostada as well, it used to be another item for Lent or just as a change of pace.
I also wonder how many young people got hooked on Taco Bell in their youth when they experimented with going vegetarian? Certainly did it for me, it was affordable on a student budget and if you were on a road trip with friends, there’s something for everyone on the menu
My first date with my now-wife was at a Taco Bell. We’ve been regulars ever since, 24-ish years. There’s nothing left on the menu.
I heard about that. Well, now I have no reason to eat at Taco Bell (unless the 5-layer burrito is comparable to the 7-layer, haven’t tried it).
My parents are very unhappy that Arbys got rid of their onion rings. That was about the only fast food place with good onion rings according to them, burger king is a poor substitute.
IMHO Burger King’s aren’t even onion rings. They are minced onion somethings, but not onion rings.
If your folks have one nearby, try the onion rings at Cheddars-they are an event.
Right here! I think bean burritos were under a dollar back then and all the sauce packets you could carry for free. I also would get the cups of greasy rice and some sides of pickled jalapenos.
I still cant believe the got rid of the 7 layer burritos. That all but completely crosses Taco Bell off my list.
It might be a smart move for them. Textured Vegetable Protean is mostly what their taco meat is anyway, make it 100% and get a new market, it’s sustainable, healthier and probably won’t change the taste at all.
I will still miss the Steak Cordita Supreme, though.
Red Robin’s tower of rings? When kids were all still at home we would do the birthdays there twice or thrice a year. Onion ring tower was a must have.
Years ago Taco Bell had these little tater-tot thingies called “mexi-nuggets.” They were grease-covered crack as far I was concerned. I was downright pissed when they pulled them off the menu.
Papa Murphy’s, the take-and-bake pizza chain, used to have a breadstick that was twisted with garlic and bacon inside. To die for. They discontinued them 8 or 10 years ago.
More recently McDonalds had a grilled chicken and ranch wrap. I loved those and as far as McDonald’s fare went they were pretty healthy (compared to the rest of their menu). They’ve been gone for a couple of years now.
The most recent thing is Taco Bell’s Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes. I didn’t eat them often (not nearly as good as the mexi-nuggets) but my kids did.
I also miss their Double Decker Taco.
I had a roast beef sandwich from JM’s this afternoon.
I don’t remember Arby’s having onion rings, but now that you mention it, I do remember their onion petals, with dipping sauce. Dammit, thanks for reminding me of one of the joys that has gone out of my life.
Artisan grilled chicken sandwiches at McDs.
I’m probably the only human on the planet who prefers fake onion rings. There’s something about biting into an onion ring and the actual onion part pulling out of its battered/breaded confines that really squicks me out. No problem biting cleanly through an onion-adjacent ring!
