What’s the oldest a child can be to still be legally eligible for adoption into a country slightly more tolerant of gay people than Jamaica? I was going to suggest this one, but then I thought for a split second. Perhaps the Netherlands?
Is there anything we can do to help the poor kid?
I’m seriously thinking about cancelling my spring break plans and heading to Jamaica instead with a railroad spike I’m going to sodomise the kid’s dad with…
Jesus fucking Christ you pack of bleeding heart crybabies. People get beaten and shot at and raped every single fucking day of the year. Just two seconds ago an American college student was gang beaten after leaving a club. Five minutes ago a woman in France was packraped by a group of rabid donkeys. Just last week a stampeding elephant killed 20 people in Indochina. Some mother beat and burned her two year old son (this one ACTUALLY happened). I don’t see anyone bawling in misery.
But some kid gets punched out and it’s a river of tears flowing to the fucking ocean?
What makes this particular case of violence so special? It isn’t exactly groundbreaking in scope and breadth. I don’t see any “FUCK POL POT” bumper stickers on your cars. It wasn’t particularly brutal. There were no blowtorches or pliers involved, although there were some hard pipe-hittin’ niggaz gettin’ medieval on some guy’s ass.
So, yeah. Please explain the heartache over one guy who got roughed up, rather than the lack of used Kleenexes for rape/landslide/earthquake/Cujo/mentally unstable samurai victims.
Does anyone else remember a banned poster called “Tarantula” - they used to go off on crazy assed rants like this.
Anyhoo - I do see j_kat_251’s point, but that’s not really the issue. Yes, I would be equally upset if I heard about a woman getting raped. We’re just not talking about that at the moment. Did you expect everyone in the thread to say “Ah, it’s okay, cause someone else was killed yesterday…”
Easy up on the smack.
Dude calm down, I get the point your trying to make but I think this particular board has alot of gays on it; which makes the story hit a little close to home.
Thats all.
BTW I like vagina…
So are you saying that because we are not upset at stories that we don’t know about we should not be upset at stories we do know?
In other words, we are not allowed to be upset at any one story because we are not cognizant of all stories? That’s some batshit manic raving there, pal.
The kid got hurt because of his father’s actions, and it sucks. Other people’s pain don’t make his less legitimate.
Idiot.
Umm, someone started a thread about it with a link to the information.
Start you own thread with a link and I’m sure people will be glad to join in with the ‘Fucking Landslides! I fucking hate those fucks!’ with you.
Oh and btw, this is the first time I’ve ever heard of a father encouraging a groupe of kids to beat his own son, so I guess that is kind of different.
You know what? Fuck you. Maybe this is the response you want, you sack of ignorant shit, but FUCK YOU. Why do I care? Because I’m human. I’ve been there and I wouldn’t wish it on anybody else in this world. Someone in this goddamn fucked up world has to care because if no one cares then what the fuck good is living? I care about this kid whose father betrayed a trust that should have been limitless, who left his own son to be beaten by the human equivalent of jackals. You think my caring about that somehow means I can’t care as much about the woman who was raped or the baby burned by their mother? Well I got news for you! The odd thing about caring is the more you let things into your heart, the more room in your heart you have for more caring. It’s not a zero-sum game where if I choose to care about this cause then I can’t care about that cause. I care about justice and compasasion in all forms those may take and if uttering such words makes me a “bleeding heart crybaby” then that’s damn well what I’ll be til the day I die, and I’ll be proud of it if the other option is being you.
You self-involved, self-righteous shriveled-up, soulless little android spouting shit like it was fucking PEARLS of wisdom. I got news for you: shit may cause pearls, but it don’t turn into them. Get a clue, grow a heart, and kindly fuck off until then.
What makes this story extra-special on the evil scale is that the human trash in question incited a mob to beat up and maybe kill his own son.
This non-gay guy finds that action just a tad more grotesque and horrible than many another story of hatred and violence.
Personally, I’m glad I don’t really understand people like that. I don’t want to understand them.
Which brings up a whole other topic - namely, that my home city (Toronto) has a very serious problem with Jamacan immigrants. We try, very hard, to be a society that prides itself on not judging people by their nationality of origin, but that has been tested to the limit - a recent report revals that the overwhelming number of gun murders in Toronto are committed by Jamacans (generally, on other Jamacans). Jamacans are only a tiny fraction of the population, so this is quite startling. Add to this their (in general) hatred of homosexuals (Toronto is very gay-friendly), their general criminality and commonplace abuse of the welfare system, and you have one group that is highly unwelcome - in general.
And therein lies the rub. How do we - can we - should we - discriminate against Jamacans when it comes to immigration? Obviously, not all Jamacans are like this. Some activists have tried to make this into a race thing, but it’s not really - many other groups of Blacks (Somalis, Etheopians, etc.) share no part in it (at least the “murderous” part). It seems to be related to some godawful culture of violence and criminality specific to Jamaca.
Well Said.
Maybe it’s just me, but I got the feeling that j_kat_251 was joking and you’ve all been whooshed. I guess it was the rabid donkey comment that tipped me off.
If I’m wrong, then j_kat_251, you got some ‘splainin’ to do.
As to the OP, egads, when will some people evolve into fucking neanderthals already? That poor kid.
Whoa, wait a minute. I didn’t say it was okay. I said that maybe, given the culture that they live in, the father may have been ultimately trying to save his son from a Matthew Shepherd end. That doesn’t make it okay, but it makes the father’s actions a bit less vile. I mean, what would you do if you lived in a nation where gays were treated horribly, and you found pictures of naked men in your son’s desk? It would be agonizing.
Of course, the father may just be a violent asshole. I’ll certainly concede that very likely possibility.
Maybe it’s just my culture but outing him to homophobic classmates would never even cross my mind. I can understand at least, even if I object violently, to some of the parents who send their kids off to sometimes abysmal circumstances to be “turned straight”. I would never consider it rationally for a moment, but at least that makes some sort of parental sense. “They may suffer now, but in the long term they won’t face the horrors a gay person must” can be rationalized into my head if I’m approaching the circumstances with a lot of misconceptions and ignorance. But what this father did? No. There’s no shred of love in there. If he had wanted to, in some way, save his son the end of Matthew Shepherd he would’ve taken matters into his own hands, chosen a less painful route. This was pure malice and a desire to see pain, any pain, inflicted on his son.
I have to be careful here, because I’m already on grienspace’s shit list for being a turd and saying something xenophobic about Schwarzenegger, BUT:
I opened the thread, saw the word Jamaica, and immediately wanted to post here that this is not the first time I’ve heard this. Jamaica is apparently horribly homophobic. Ever heard “chi-chi man”? It was a popular song from just last year, I think, about a guy who goes and burns to death the chi-chi man, which is Jamaican slang for faggot. (BTW, there’s a gay bar in NYC called Chi-Chis.)
I’ve never seen a more appropriate case to pit.
Oh, and Drudge ran a story a couple years ago that a Jamaican gay got asylum in England - “just because he’s gay” - like, who does he think he is, getting special treatment?
Anyway, he got asylum in England on the basis that if he was sent back to Jamaica, he would be in danger for his life because of his gayness. This type of thing happens all the time, make no mistake about it.
You are a terrible person. I hope your future is lonely and bleak.
I agree. Just knowing about some of the things we humans do to each other kills me. Why do I still hope for mankind?
Because other people care enough to be outraged instead of condoning things like this. Because Matthew Shepard’s death evoked massive waves of condemnation and anguish instead of just knowing smirks and tacit acceptance.
We humans have always been one of the nastiest, cruellest species on the planet, but I do believe we’re making progress toward a humane humanity. It’s inchingly, agonizingly slow, but it’s happening.
Despite the best efforts of the Dark Siders to drag us back into their hell disguised as heaven.

How **J_Kat_251 made it to 542 posts without being banned I’ll never know.
Is there some reason you consider Rastafarians to have some “extra level of fundamentalist religiosity?” All the Rastafarians I’ve known have seemed completely in the mainstream to me when compared with people of other religions.
Knowing and having known quite a few Jamacains, including one family very closely, I can say that the attitudes of Jamacian society towards gays described in this thread seems to be very accurate. In other words, Jamaican society seems to be intolerant towards gays.
Also, although it may not be pertinent, I’ve known just as many Jamaicans who are Baptist as Rastafarian (and when I look at the Department of State’s webpage, Baptists are 9 percent while “other” is 9 percent and includes Rastafarians, Hindus, and Jews).
