I just…
fuck.
What does a person think? What do they have to be thinking to incite mob violence against their own child? How could this possibly be enough to make someone lose their mind to that extent?
Fuck.

Fuck.
The father was probably thinking “I really don’t like gay people. I don’t want my son to be one of them. Maybe violence will solve the problem.”
An endemic attitude, unfortunately.
I have heard a Jamaican fella publicly declare that he would kill his own son if he “turned gay.” Not talking about a hypothetical son, either… the man was a father of three boys, all under six. The argument that was developing divided along a distinct cultural line, with other Jamaican men supporting the idea of infanticde (teenicide?) for gay kids. This was in an enclosed space that we were obliged to spend a full day in. Fucking miserable time, that was.
These were Rastafarian folk, so there’s that extra level of fundamentalist religiosity fucking with 'em.
Yeah, that’s pretty much what I figured. Doesn’t make it any more comprehensible to me, though.
The firing squad is too good for some people.
If Jamaica truly is that hostile a place for homosexuals, then perhaps the father’s actions were rooted in love. A couple of years from now, that kid will be on his own. If it was his roommate or co-worker that found pictures of naked men in the young man’s desk…well, we all know too well what happened to Matthew Shepherd. MGRHS.
So maybe the father was being cruel to be kind.
If I had a father who “loved” me that much, I sure wouldn’t want one who hated me.
I refuse to even consider this explanation, and find it disgusting that the word “love” can be so abused. The father set his son up to be killed, dammit! With a father like that, in a couple of years the son won’t be on his own-he’ll be buried in an unmarked grave. I cannot accept that love had anything at all to do with the father’s actions. What I see instead is hatred, ignorance and ego.
Aw shit. What’s gonna happen to that poor kid?
Only one thing needs to be said:
Some people are truly evil.
You and Annie Wilkes have a lot in common–“I love you, Paul” WHACK!
Love means defending your kid, accpeting him for who he is, maybe starting a Jamaican chapter of PFLAG. Possibly the father could arrange for the kid to study in the US. Urging other students to hurt your child merely becuase he’s gay is not love, it’s hate fueled by bigotry.
Oh.
So that makes it ok then.
WTF??
I don’t get it. I don’t get it at all. People like this become parents without a problem so that they can torment and abuse their children, yet some people who should be parents are unable to do so. Where’s the fairness in that?
Ava
Fuckers. Just… my god.
At least one teacher had the balls to do something about it, was willing to take hits for the poor boy.
Still, THIS part pisses me off:
WHAT. THE. HELL?
A stern warning for beating a kid unconcious with every apparent attempt to kill him? No charges against the man who incited this violence on his own son? What THE FUCK is up with Jamaica? This is just… ugh. Words fail me.
Oh, that poor kid. What on earth do you do when the whole world torments you and your own parent is the ringleader? Where do you turn?
I just hope he makes it out of that shitty environment and finds peace and happiness.
Jamaica sounds like a good place not to make vacation plans for. Why put money into the economy of a place like that?
I cannot understand.
I would attack any child who tried to beat My son.
This is so not normal.
And religious folk say their claiming gayness is a sin doesn’t incite violence.
I bet it does.
Did he die?
"Son, it’s important to me that you know the world can be a very cruel and inhuman place. People can be violent towards anyone they don’t fully understand, no matter what the difference is. Like this, for example.
Hey, kids! Over here! My son is a fucking FAGGOT!"
Yeah, common sense by the fuckload there.
I have no words.
