Do you have a favorite ad that you see on television? For a while it used to be the “wazzuuuup” goes for Bud, then it got kind of annoying.
But this afternoon I saw a new advertisment that has got to be my absolute favorite of all time. It’s for the Independent Film Channel, and it’s some kind of mockumentary spoof. Has anyone else caught this yet? It’s brilliant. They’re spoofing a 16 hour indpendent film about the history of independent films. And there are several random celebrity cameos but what got my attention was David Duchovny. The whole thing was hosted by Michael McKean – and I swear it took me a minute to realize they weren’t joking and it was actually an ad for the independent film channel.
This commercial is from a few years ago, and I only saw it a couple times so I don’t remember it very well, but this is the gist of it. It starts with a doctor talking to a man, telling him the surgery went well. I don’t remember what all he says, maybe something like “she’s doing well” or “she’ll make a full recovery” - something along those lines anyway. And then the doctor takes the man to see the patient, he opens the door and it shows a dog lying on the operating table. The dog sees the man (or maybe the man calls its name, something like that) and the dog can’t move, but it wags its tail as I’ll Stand by You starts to play.
It kills me! It always made me cry, it was so touching. A couple months ago I searched the internet trying to find a video of it but couldn’t, it really was the best commercial I have ever seen (of course, I don’t remember what it was a commercial for…)
My all time favorite:
the three guys watching some game on tv, talking about how to get the toilet so clean; ‘Hey, chief! coaster!’
Guess what guys: women don’t hang around talking about how clean the the toilet is, either.

My all-time favorite: The Volkswagen ad set to the Nick Drake song “Pink Moon”, with four young people in a Cabrio convertible going down a country highway at night in the moonlight. Just the most beautifully subtle thing.
The guy in the Joe Boxers comercial is wearing boxer-briefs, not tighty whities. Speaking of which, can someone tell me where I’ve heard that song before? Is it from another commercial? Was it in a movie recently?
My fave commercial on TV now is either Nike’s chicken chases man or VW’s wedding commercial.
My all-time favorite is the Snickers commercial with the panda guy, and I’m apparantly the only person on the planet who’s seen it because any time I mention it everyone’s like, “huh?” A guy with a copy of “Panda Fancier” magazine is trying to get his office-mates to go out with him for lunch and some panda talk. "You know what pandas eat for lunch? Bamboo! <in “panda” voice, holding up copy of magazine open to centerfold> “Coooome to luuunch, and have some bamboooo with meeee!” And the office mates are huddled behind a closed door, while a voice-over says “Not going anywhere for a while?” Funniest damn thing ever in a commercial. Way better than the lame-ass “consequences of hunger” tripe Snickers is running now.
I already stated a thread for this one, it’s the ad for Staples with the theme being They’re going back!! with the dad dancing down the aisles with the shopping cart while his kids follow along behind pouting. All set to The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year.
I also like the Snickers Crunchie add with the guy who gets woken up by the telemarketer and gets revenge, of a sort.
