Which ONE charity do you support and admire and contribute to (when possible)?
For me, it’s definitely Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières. They “deliver emergency aid to victims of armed conflict, epidemics, and natural and man-made disasters, and to others who lack health care due to social or geographical isolation.”
They even won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999!
Such an amazing and worthy group.
My current favorite is Habitat for Humanity. They build homes for low income families who couldn’t otherwise afford to buy a home. There is no down payment for the house but the family that is moving in helps to build the house, they call it “Sweat Equity”. The homes are built by volunteers and once the family moves in, they pay a reasonable payments which goes back into Habitat for Humanity so they can build more homes. I love it!
I give “Project Open Hand” It started as a meals on wheels program for people living with AIDS in San Francisco. They have now expanded (one resaon being the number of AIDS cases have gone down, yeah!) to help people living with a variety of ailments. I also donate to the USO every now and then.
PBS. Not really a charity to speak of in the classical sence, but worth supporting none the less.
The local food bank. In tring to teach charity to my daughter we would go out and buy a few frozen turkys and drive them over to the bank. She’d help unload them and they were always , and I do mean always welcome.
Hopefully, she learned something from them.
I do suppport a few wild life charities through the purchace of various WhitWolf gaming books.
The American Cancer Society, because we’ve lost too many friends and family to cancer over the years.
