I have to second lawoot’s Beth Littleford, she has set the bar too high and none of the others have made it over IMHO. Her Boy George interview where she asked about the “bearded clam” will always be a favorite moment of mine…
God, yes! Whew! Glad I’m not the only one.
And it’s a given that Jon Stewart totally rocks my world.
Mmmmmm…Daily Show men…drools
Funniest: Colbert and Helms.
But they’ve all had their moments!
Ah, yes… ::le swoon::
And Papermache, you are no prince, you are a demi-god.
Oh, and JuanitaTech…the bowtie!
Mo Rocca is the cutest, but I was so happy to see that Steve Carrell is back again. I’ve always thought he was the funniest. In spite of the FedEx commercials.
The FedEx commercials are right down there with KFC commercials.
Oh, Jason Alexander, you and your chicken!
(bolding added)
They’re getting pretty bold on basic cable these days.
Beth Littleford is turning into a stable of TV commercials these days, the paycheck might be nice but she’s too funny for that stuff.
Mo Rocca seems to be in a competition with Joel Stein and Rob Sheffield for most irritating, obvious, and unfunny humorist/commentator during all those clip show/countdown things on VH-1 like “I Love The 80s” and “One Hit Wonders”. But at least he is doing his act when he does it, the other two twits seem sincere. He also does a week in review bit on CNN Headline News on Friday afternoons, for those of you who need their Mo fix.
He not a real correspondent but Lewis Black is my favorite for humor. It’s like he’s channeling one of my bad moods.
From a doable standpoint, I have very dirty thoughts about the otherwise very unfunny Rebecca Harris.
You all are probably too young to remember, but way back before the turn of the century the show featured reports by founder Lizz Winstead. I must be getting old, because I can’t remember any of the actual bits she did, but I do remember liking her stuff (and thinking she was quite the babe, too).
She walked off the show after then-host Craig Kilborn said something insulting about her. I don’t think I ever heard what he had said, but eventually he left too. I thought he was okay on The Daily Show, but now on his own show I think he is the most insufferable, self-important, unfunny icehole in show business.
I miss Beth Littleford. She was good.
As for current staff, I like Stephen Colbert best among the correspondents.
But Jon is just a great host, and has really improved the show and its reputation.
I’d have to say Stephen Colbert. He always has this way about him where you can’t quite tell if he’s perfectly normal or a completely insane person who hides it very well. Maybe I got it from his stint on “Strangers With Candy” but it’s always there about him in his expression.
I wonder if CC will ever play the older episodes. I can’t remember much about the early episodes except how much I disliked Craig Kilborn and how he was always harping about Kathy Ireland and her failure at the questions.
I’d also like to see them send Jon out into the field. Put him “on the scene” somewhere. I think he’d make a great field correspondant.
I remember Lizz Winstead! She once did a piece on the Swedish vs. Norwegian rivalry in…ummm…Minnesota? Wisconsin? Somewhere cold. She ate lutefisk, that I remember.
She was a good foil for Craig Kilborn, and they seemed to have a good-natured rivalry going, until he made a bad joke about her.
