Interesting. The internet seems to tell me that Bavarian cream is the denser one, and Boston the runnier one. Both have eggs. I THINK most likely the pączki place uses something closer to Boston cream, not Bavarian cream as they advertise. I’d have to have them side by side from a bakery that works with both fillings to taste for myself.
I don’t know what type of donut this is, but I like the ones that look very much like a farm tractor tire.
I used to work near a bagel place that also had a limited selection of donuts. I sure miss their powdered donuts filled with chocolate cream. Best donuts I ever had!
Chocolate glazed cruller when I can find them. So eggy and fluffy. A local small chain, Heavenly Donuts, has one shop that does blueberry frosted cake donuts and those are amazing, could only be better if they’d glaze an old fashioned with that blueberry stuff. They also make blueberry fritters and omg those are crack.
The best doughnuts I’ve ever had were fresh out of the fryer at the gift shop atop Pike’s Peak. Supposedly there’s something about the 140000-foot altitude that makes them extra light and delicious. Too bad it’s not an easy place to get to.
One of my sister’s friends in high school worked at the local Winchell’s. They tossed their day old doughnuts into a big cardboard box under the counter. Those were crumbified to make up the cinnamon crumb doughnuts. The kicker? The cockroaches loved that box and were not weeded out prior to the crumbification process.
My fav is the maple bar. The only filled doughnut I like is a raspberry with granulated sugar (no powder). Hate custard doughnuts. I also like chocolate with peanuts, but not with a chocolate doughnut – only the frosting is chocolate.
Apple fritters aren’t doughnuts, but I love 'em, too.
I’ve always wanted to go there, but it’s a least a 90 minute drive for me.
Plain cake, but I do enjoy the occasional glazed twist.
Stratospheric donuts? Sounds awesome! ![]()
Drenched in spiced syrup and rolled in coconut.
They’re out of this world! (of course it should be 14,000 feet)
I don’t put these in the “donut” category because they are so elegant. But the supermarket sells a cheap version that I wouldn’t touch with a pair of tongs. I go to Patrick’s or Patisserie46. @Chefguy , if you’ve made it to Minneapolis, check them out.
There are eclairs and there are eclairs. ![]()
The latter is my SO’s favorite but she wouldn’t object to the former.
Then there is my favorite Eclair
My favorite is the full sized powered donut. Hard to get them fresh on the west coast. Usually just in the box in the grocery store.
Although I posted “French Cruller” previously, I really, really love the mini-donuts hot off the machine. Watching them is fun, too.
Apple-filled, cinnamon sugar coated
Plain cake; raised glazed; and a third vote for maple bar.
(Didn’t vote in the poll because it only allows max of two boxes checked.)
That’s it alright. A French cruller.
I didn’t know there were different types; I only knew of crullers as the long twisted/braided type. I learn something new every day.
