favorite hangover cures

Andy, right on! Maybe we should limit it to weekends though…Don’t want to be late for work

I’ve never understood this, although experienced it plenty of times. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Run to the bedroom,
In the suitcase on the left
You’ll find my favorite axe.

This simple 10-step program has cured every single hangover I’ve ever had.
Hope it works for you

  1. Take long hot shower, preferably alone.

  2. Put on sweats if tis cold or shorts if tis hot. Shirt optional.

  3. Shoot anyone who talks above a whisper. If this is not practical for you, go somewhere really quiet.

  4. Take some head-ache medicine

  5. Get something to eat.

  6. Convince (ask?) your SO to give you some oral pleasure. I refer to this as “headache eraser”.

  7. Sleep.

  8. Watch movie, huggle with girlfriend, doze.

  9. Eat some more. If you feel up to it, return favor from step 6.

  10. Repeat.

Rachelle, not to sound preachy, but you should never take Tylenol if you’ve had more than three drinks. Acetaminophen is broken down by the liver and if you’ve been drinking enough to get drunk, your liver is working overtime the way it is. There have been numerous cases of death by liver failure caused by mixing a Tylenol or two with a night of drinking.

Sleep until the day after tomorrow.

Cecil said it. I believe it. That settles it.

Pamprin, not painkillers. Or, if you’re a guy who thinks taking a “feminine” medication will make you grow breasts, any muscle relaxant. Doane’s Pills, if they still make them. But it has to be a muscle relaxant. Your blood was deprived of oxygen, and now your muscles are struggling. Painkillers only mask the problem.

And Gatorade is the only thing to wash them down with. Intertia, Gatorade comes in many flavors, and I’m sure some of them lack Yellow No. 5. Unless you’re restricted to a store that only carries two flavors, in which case, orange juice will suffice.

Bucky, I’ll have to try that scalding/icy shower bit. Also, doing a meditation takes the edge off for me, or nearly dismisses it if it’s mild. Some people do a workout and sweat it away, but I can never commit myself to that if I’m hung over to begin with.

I guess I’m just better off living with my inner tensions.

Pamprin has acetaminophen, a painkiller, in it (plus a diuretic and an antihistamine) and the active ingredient in Doan’s Pills is magnesium salicylate, which is not a muscle relaxant, but an analgesic related to aspirin.

Before going to bed, drink as much ice water as you can stomach, and take an Aleve.

After waking up, drink Gatorade. Lots and lots of Gatorade. Take another Aleve.

That was our house cure for hangovers, so well-used that we’d buy gallons of Gatorade while stocking up for parties.

As a former singer in a band that played bars every weekend, I’ve had a lot of practice on this …

The things that I’ve found take the edge off best are -

  • lots of fluids, preferably without caffiene (if you’re an a.m. caffiene addict like me, they will work too, just not as well)

  • stress-formula vitamins

  • greasy breakfast or fast food (I have NO clue why)

absolutly correct!! never ever tylenol and alcohol. Seeing people recommend it for a hangover was freaking me out… Im glad someone posted this before I got to it… Its warned on the Tylenol… but this should be one thing that should be made HUGELY aware to the general public, very dangerous.

I skip the drugs and drink lots of water before bed. Then in the morning a greasy bacon and egg breakfast.

If that doesn’t help then chocolate milk ** always ** works for me.

Fortunately I rarely if ever get hangovers. :stuck_out_tongue:

Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.

For a mild hangover (characterized for me by general fatigue, headache and thirst) I find that eating foods with MSG makes me feel a lot better.

A couple of Advil with water, Cran-Grape juice or gatorade, then Ramen, Doritos or Chinese food (avoiding the no-MSG places!)

Evidently, the solution to about 20 honey browns is not sausages, scrambled eggs, potatoes, pancakes, coffe and gallons of water. 'Cos I think i’m gonna chunder.

Years ago I swore by red hot peppers and onions on my Jreck sub sandwich. The only think I found out that reallly helps is a shot of something like Benadryl or cough syrup with di-whatever in it (no acetominophen , no tylenol!!!) which relaxes you and maybe lets you sleep it off…liquids and Advil or Excedrin> Good luck.

Water first NO COFFEE nobody likes a wideawake drunk. A Quote from a fellow bartender friend of mine…

Hold off on the gatorade until all the alcohol is gone from your stomach. It is made to go to your system fast but you don’t want to take any alcohol with it.
Then food and sleep.

Chief Crunch & B_Line12 - I have never heard of this before. This kind of scares me because when I go out drinking I usually have 3-4 drinks (usually Vodka & 7up) and do 2-3 shots. I’m 5’ 9" tall and weigh 118 pounds so that’s quite a bit of alcohol for someone my size but it’s enough to give me a good buzz but not enough to get me really drunk so I usually don’t take the Tylenol before bed. I only take the Tylenol when I’m really drunk so obviously I’m drinking more than 3-4 drinks. Is it safer to take Excedrin or Advil?

That John Denver’s full of shit man!

Excedrin has acetominiphen(sp) or Tylenol in it, so I would stay away from that… as far as I know Advil is alright… I usually take that or just plain asprin the next morning myself.

My hangover cure?? water before bed (of course) but what really helps (and I swear I have had MORE then my fair share of hangovers) is anything with tomato juice or paste (hence V8 or bloody mary theory… although the alcohol in the later is a factor) even salsa! I usually try to make sure I have left over pizza the next morning… something about the tomatoe (electolites maybe) makes the headache go away fast. I stand in testiment!

Water with two or three asprin or advil (which are both safe) and a B complex before and after sleep. Then a nice hot shower to open the pores and let the alcohol out, with a shot of cold water at the end to wake up. Then a healthy, greasy breakfast to soak up any more alcohol, with some coffee, if needed. But go heavy on the water or juice.

It’s not how you pick your nose, it’s where you put the boogers

this advil and water combo better work, or else I’m gonn abe in some pain in the morinn.

and whover said colfire is the most lilkly to postt drunk is full of iut

why I’m on the sdmb at this time I dunno, and why I decied to post, I dunoo that either. College is so much fun!!

For bad hangovers a little beer in the morning helps me. Pot works if you have nothing to do the rest of the day. Sugar helps if you have it right after your beer, like a hershey bar. I used to know a guy that worked at a brewery (when you used to be able to drink on the job) and he swore by the sugar method saying “it helps your body break down the alcohol.” Could just be placebo but it works for me.

If at first you don’t succeed you’re about average.
