- I used to be addicted to Edy’s Snickers ice cream, but they went and cheapened it. The label says “Improved With More Candy!” but that’s BS: now Edy’s Snickers is just the same as another cheaper brand sold for almost half the price. The ingredients are not the same as they used to be: now there’s just “Snickers”-chocolate-covered peanuts instead of real chopped-up candy bars, and much less caramel mixed in. The cheapo stuff only has enough to color the vanilla ice cream brown–so you know it’s not supposed to be plain vanilla, but Edy’s used to have thick veins of the stuff swirled through it. And Edy’s is still priced the same as before! $4.50 for a quart, while the cheaper brand with the same ingredients is about $3.50 a gallon. I tried the cheaper brand once and found it lacking. And now knowing what it used to be, the current stuff just isn’t satisfying. I gave it up on principle, haven’t really bought much since.

I am not much of a chocolate person, although that does sound good. I just like the plain old taste of the sugary sweet sherbert. It’s been my favorite since I was a wee one. Only dreyer’s carries sherbert at my grocery store… I hope it doesn’t become extinct!
That sounds like a diabetic coma waiting to waiting… But I’d be lieing to say I wasn’t salivating thinking about it!
waiting to happen*
I wish Ben & Jerry’s made Pumpkin Pie ice cream. They would blow everyone else’s version away!
I’m partial to the Godiva ice creams (all of them), but I haven’t seen them around here lately. I can’t remember the exact names of the flavors, but there was a Chocolate Raspberry, a Chocolate Praline Truffle, and IIRC a Chocolate Hazelnut. They were all amazing. I’ll happily settle for B&J’s NY Super Fudge Chunk, though. (Can you tell I’m a chocoholic?)

My fondest memories of ice cream are sitting on the porch helping my father turn the crank on the ice cream maker, adding salt occasionally and carefully pouring off the water and adding more ice. Later I would pour Hershey’s Syrup out of the can onto the ice cream and stir it up into a dreamlike mixture. Heaven on earth as only a kid can experience.
The only store bought ice cream I’ve ever had that comes close to that is Breyer’s Vanilla Fudge Twirl. So very close but still not the dream .
I am hooked on the Godiva “Chocolate Raspberry”. That one just blows me away.
However, now that I know that Haagen-Dazs makes a “Banana’s Foster” flavor I am going to HAVE to find it. I have a feeling that one is going to be incredibly good!
Oh, and I abhor Starbucks coffee (bleck) as well, but their ice cream is nothing short of a miracle. Especially the “Mocha Almond Fudge” flavor with dark chocolate covered almonds. Mmmm.
I guess I am just boring but I enjoy ** Butter Pecan **-- really doesn’t matter who makes it, it’s alwys sooo good.
Good thing is that no one knows how good Butter Pecan is, so at my school, I can always pluck it from the school cafeteria while others grumble, “WHO TOOK THE LAST TRIPLE CARAMEL BUTTERFINGER CRUNCH FUDGE AND RASPBERRY EXPLOSION!!%!!”
Heh, these ice cream names now a days really are terrible.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the little chocolate fishes in Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food are repeating shordurpersavs for me.
Hagen-daas dulce de leche would be up there, too, but it seems to do unpleasant things to my normally-steady system, so I’ve pretty much sworn it off.
As a belgian, i’m flattered belgian chocolate scores so highly with so many people in this thread
Thanks!
We use more cocoa butter, the real cocoa, i mean, and less sugar.
That’s why it tastes so yummy
My absolute favourite chocolate would be Cote D’or, the one with the small gold elephant as an emblem.
My favourite ice cream, however, has to be B&J’s The Full Vermonty.
Despite the fact that hokey-pokey flavour is a beloved New Zealand icon of Kiwiana, I prefer passionfruit flavour first, followed by (a close second) boysenberry. If I saw yoghurt-flavoured ice cream around, I’d add that to the list – the creamy texture is heavenly.
I just bought a half-gallon of Great Value (Wal-Mart store brand) Chocolate Chip & Mint this morning. It’s wonderful stuff.
Rolo or Cherry Cheesecake icecream !!
I love just about any mint-chocolate ice creams out there…
Edy’s ice cream is pretty darn good… it is marketed as “Dreyer’s” ice cream west of the Rockies
Does anyone remember when Haagen Daaz had their Amaretto di Saranno flavour? OMG it was so fantastic… does anyone know of a smiliar flavour from ANY maufacturer?
Bailey’s Haagen-Dazs. ummmmm-yummmy!!
Big fan of their pecan-caramel one too, although I think they call it something different.
Best actual ice-cream I’ve ever eaten was from a shop in Florence, near the Ponte Vecchio. Coffee, with real coffee beans and choclate in it, and peach made with proper peach pulp and studded with bits of skin.
I can tell you that the candy is still chopped up Snickers bars, and chocolate coated peanuts are not added as a separate ingredient … whatever peanuts you find came out of the candy bar. The chop size of the candy was changed from the very small size the product was originally formulated with, to the new larger size. This was done to address complaints about the original small size. So, larger size but added at the same rate (pounds per gallon) makes it look like less candy. It’s one of those damned if you do/don’t situations.
Blue Bell Banana Split, especially when you get a slice of frozen banana in your spoonful.
I guess I’ll be the outcast here and just say that I’m not the biggest fan of ice cream. About the only kind I like is Cookies n’Cream.
I’m a Hagen Daze guy from way back, but I’m not much for banana flavored anything. But after I read this post, I figured why not try it.
Last night a friend and I split a pint. I wish we had another pint or two, because it is really GOOD!
Thanks.
Ben and Jerry’s chocolate fudge brownie
I’m going to have to go with Hagen Daz Tiramisu Gelato.
I’m also quite fond of Dreyer’s Dreamery Chocolate Truffle Explosion, and Ben and Jerry’s Bovinity Divinity. Moo.
