So a lot of people do not seem to like modern cars. But I would like to know what is your favorite modern car?
For me I always like those little mini cars. Do not know what they are called just the small ones.

Define “modern”.
Low price, my wife has a Toyota RAV4 that we both like. High price, Mercedes SL550.
1969 Camaro
I don’t have one favorite vehicle. for a performance car, I like my Mustang GT. I also like my 2011 Ranger, but the Ranger has been dead for 4 years now and hadn’t been substantially updated since 1998, so I don’t know if I’d call it modern. I’d love to be able to get a mid-size pickup with a diesel engine if one existed. Chevy/GMC are supposed to launch a diesel version of the Colorado/Canyon “Real Soon Now.”
depends what you consider “mini.” The “small” cars we have here now are usually B-segment sedans and hatches like the Mini, Fiesta, Fiat 500, Mazda 2, Chevy Spark, etc. But they’re not all that “mini,” put any of those next to, say, a 1985 Plymouth Horizon and all of those “mini” cars will dwarf the Horizon.
Tesla Model S. Can’t get more modern than that.
I love my new (to me) 2012 Mazda3. Reliable, nimble, way fun to drive. But I’m not sure if I love it as much as the 1999 Miata I had a decade ago. Kind of a toss-up, really.
Just bought my second Kia Soul. First one was a 2012 6 speed, this one is a 2015 6 speed. Great MPG, price and resale value along with being very roomy and easy to park in the city.
I got rid of it but regret it it. I really enjoyed driving my Mitsubishi, Diamonte more than any other car I have owned. I can’t say I have owned a lot of cars as I mostly drive trucks but out of the ones I have owned it easily took first place.
Fiat 500 Abarth.
Saturns. We had both a SW2 and a Vue and friends had other models. Fantastic basic cars that looked as good at 150k as they did new.
Lincoln is bringing back the Continental, which brings back memories of a time when that was really a great car. I would let them park one in my driveway.
A Porsche Cayenne, for towing a Bowlus Road Chief.
Gorgeous sure, but not exactly a modern car. There is less distance between a 1928 LaSalle and a 1969 Camaro than there is between a 1969 Camaro and a 2015 Camaro LS1.
It’s a tie for me between the Ferrari 458 and the Tesla S. Or a Cayman S, or the new WRX STI, or the Challenger Hellcat…on and on ad nauseum…
I just got the 2013 Mazda 3 model a couple months back. Beautiful, 40+ mpg on the highway, also I’ve never had another car that needs such a light touch on the steering.
What’s not to love?
This one for me, too.
Specifically, the P85D, with dual electric motors and a 0-60 time of 3.2 seconds.
If i didn’t give a crap about fuel consumption, i might go for the new Mercedes C63 AMG, with a 500 HP twin-turbo V8.
Ah, you’ve got the SkyActiv engine. All I could afford was the basic Sport package, which lacked it. Still, you are so right. One review I saw described the Mazda3 as a Miata dressed up as a sedan, which was right on the money as far as I’m concerned. I also think it’s one beautiful car - although the 2015 is even prettier.
That’s my next car, I think.
I would say the Model S wins by default, by virtue of it being the only modern car in existence (which I arbitrarily define as: does not carry a heat engine with it and is not a goddamn embarrassment to drive).
Toyota Sienna AWD minivan. We have an older Sienna and it’s the most comfortable car we’ve ever owned. It sits fairly high so it’s easy to get in and out of with tons of room in the back for hauling family or junk we frequently need to haul home. Today, for example, we hauled home a large package of freight from the freight depot. It was a small mobility scooter. We reckon we’ll have room to haul TWO of these scooters, four people and a bulk order of groceries. So, yeah, I like it’s versatility and comfort.
Maybe I’ll get lucky and some well-insured idiot will total my car, and finance the newer model for me. That’s the only way I could afford this one (until January I was driving a Protege 5, which I also really liked).
