This is the thread to brag about your personal nickname or point to someone with in your opinion has the absolute best nickname ever.
I’ll start; I got freelancer from a ‘freelance job’ and I always think freelancer as a name for a free person who acts as he pleases. Kinda lame really, but whatever I’ve been using it now for nearly 5 years so it has grown on me.
The best name IMHO is plasmic boldhunt. I just like it for no particular reason.
So what is your favorite nickname and why did you pick yours?
ps. I’m still new to these boards, so if this should be on a different board just move it.
Around work I’m known by many nicknames: Pedantic Asshole, Nazi Bastard, etc. Probably the only nickname I’ve ever really liked was Shotgun, which isn’t a reference to the firearm but was given to me by fellow brewers for my habit of “shotgunning” brewing competitions. It wasn’t really true, but I let them believe it.
To shotgun a competition is to enter a beer in numerous categories in an attempt to win an award. I would enter **multiple ** beers in every category in an attempt to win every award. A slight semantic difference.
When I joined the SDMB, I wanted the name Miss Anne Thrope (which I’ve used elsewhere), but it seems to be taken.
As for other Dopers, pseudotriton ruber ruber makes me giggle (not that I think salamanders are particularly funny), as does Life on Wry, and Left Hand of Dorkness. I think Anaamika and Kythereia are very melodious. Skald the Rhymer paints a definite (though probably inacurate) picture in my head. Harmonious Discord seems appropriate for these boards.
Nicknames? My main nickname is too close to my real name but it does serve to cause people to double take upon hearning it.
Buddha - Before my company realized that IT was important, I was the IT department for a company of over 100 computer users. When asked how I kept up with demand, I replied that I could be in three places at once. Some employees thought that buddha was appropriate.
The human highlight reel | The miracle worker - On tv no less On a local sports show.
Quick - I never understood this one. I’m not even black. Some officials started calling me this in my rookie year of junior hockey. I’m fast, but ‘Quick’ just didn’t make sense.
Baron Silas Greenback (or shortened) - Dangermouse is my all-time favourite cartoon and the Baron is the devious mastermind. Even if you have never seen the show, my sig should show you what type of character he is/was.
Someone on this board called me ‘spunky’. I like that.
As for usernames, I like: **Shirley Ujest - ShibbOleth - diggleblop - Chez Guevara -The Flying Dutchman **[ofcourse] - Hakuna Matata -
Bosda Di’Chi of Tricor - Quadop de Mercotan [sp?] ** and many more, which I forgot.
I have no clue what those two names mean.
I wish I picked the username ‘Besserwisser’ though.
I just read the funniest thread about that word.
When I was a kid some of my cousins called me “Scotch”. Not because I was a drunk, but because I loved butterscotch candy. It was cute, made me feel like I belonged.
My husband of twenty years has always called me “Kitten”. That’s all the belonging I need now.
I need to explain that last sentence of my last post(or first post). When I met my future hubby in 1994 he hated cats. Never had them, never wanted them. But they were basically the only pets I ever had.
When we got married and moved to Colorado I had to leave my beloved kitties home with my mother. All I wanted for my birthday, I told him, was a cat. So, we went to the mall pet shop and picked out the cutest little white kitten you’ve ever seen. I named him Ceasar, but he was soon to be called Noodlehead.
Fast Forward, everyone time hubby laid on the couch Noodle jumped on his stomach to sleep. Whenever hubby went into another room, Noodie followed. Hubby grew to love the little fellow so much sometimes I felt neglected. They became inseperable. And that is how I made my husband a cat person. We have six currently.
